Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Mcknight.
Hi Anthony, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, my name is Anthony Mcknight I’m a local Artist in my hometown Aurora, Colorado. I started making music at age 9.
I’ve always been around music, my grandpa Kevin was a guitarist, my cousin Josh played drums, and I picked up drums and made beats. I wrote down lyrics from time to time, even when they didn’t always make sense – it somehow felt right. At the time, it was just fun and I was hanging with some homies who always wanted to rap.
As I got older, I continued to do music but I wasn’t necessarily taking it seriously. At age 18 – that’s when I wrote an official song. I went downstairs to tell my mom about the song, but I felt nervous rapping for my mom for the first time, I wasn’t sure how she was going to react. My mom was surprised and proud, she saw potential in me. She always told me, “You’re special” and have your gifts.
I attended Overland High School, but I was getting involved with the wrong people, and hanging around criminal-minded individuals. I didn’t want to be around people like that but somehow I found myself surrounded by that energy. People would want to fight and bully me. It gave me a lot to rap and write about and inspired some of my songs.
I continued to write, every chance I had. When I experienced the loss of friends and family and other hardships, writing was a refuge-it was a way to process everything I was feeling. I was assigned female at birth, but I always had a natural physical aptitude for sports and a masculine nature about me. I was making music, but no one took me seriously. I didn’t let the negative comments deter me. I continued to make music.
I spent a lot of time in my room during the night hours, instead of sleeping, I was up writing songs, listening to music, and creating new music. I did that every day until my lyrics got better. I identify as male, and I continued to work on my voice every day as it was changing. It’s been an evolution, but my music has continued to be my greatest passion.
I’m dedicated to my art and making rap music that reflects the ups and downs in life and using my authentic voice. I’ve worked hard to improve my craft. As an artist, I can always handle the heat when it comes to criticism or critique. I’ve worked to improve with people’s feedback on how to improve my lyrics, flow, rhythm, and voice. It’s getting easier to lay out my flow and switch flows. I’ve performed around Denver, before covid hit.
I haven’t performed since we’re emerging out of the pandemic, but I’ve continued to make musicals while the rest of the world is asleep. This year I plan on shooting a music video. You can check out my SoundCloud under honey_hiker.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been the smoothest road I’ve been working on healing. Grief is such a weird feeling but I’m always overcoming my hardships.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a rapper I’m very skilled in Hip Hop Rap Trap and R&B I’m mostly known for Trap and Hip-Hop rap. I’m proud of my evolution process and how far I’ve come as an artist.
I stand out from others because of my evolution I could never sound the same. My voice changes every day therefore I have to create new sounds.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see more projects being made lots of tasks to do, and lots of traveling my business reaching higher heights. My music thriving.
