Check Out Ashley Ludkowski’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Ludkowski.

Hi Ashley, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Post college where I studied Journalism and Fine Art, I found myself working at the Clyfford Still Museum and saving up all my money for a one-way ticket to South America. This semi-unplanned eight months South/Central America trip opened my eyes up to the world of textiles, where I fell in love hard. When I got back to the states I moved to New York City where I worked between NYC and Guatemala for five years with a textile company that designed shoes, bags, home goods and more. Once I decided it was time for my next step, I started Selva Studio with a focus on Mexican textiles. I also went back to school for my interior design certificate at that time to be able to offer products and services through Selva Studio. Now Selva Studio is a full-service design firm offering commercial and residential design alongside the product line with textiles and custom products handmade in Mexico.

I believe design is made to inspire by infusing a space with color, textures and patterns from around the world. I take a fearless approach to stray from the norms and create designs that are fresh and unique, I like to call them eclectic zen.

I also take great joy in sharing the beauty of international style with my clients, whether that is through a custom rug or full-service design. If you’ve got a project you’re working on, I’d love to hear about it! Let’s connect.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Ultimately it has been smooth, yes! But it did take me time to discover my true passion, interior design. I lived in New York City in my 20s and that was a time of exploration and experimentation. It was not until I left the city at age 29 and moved to Denver to re-focus my career and launch my own business, Selva Studio. This is when it all started to fall into place.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I offer interior design services for commercial and residential products as well as custom textile design. I love all types of interior design but find myself most drawn to commercial projects as I love to think through how different people will use a space and set it up for success in the most unique way possible. My first love was and always will be textile design. I work directly with our weaving partners in Mexico to design every textile. They naturally dye the wool and we have over 120 colors to choose from currently. I have always been an artist at heart, one of my degrees in college was Fine Arts, and nothing makes me happier than seeing design dreams become a tangible reality in someone’s home or business.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Creativity, organization, communication and an overall curiosity about life to keep things interesting!
