Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashton Blaha.
Hi Ashton, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I was younger, my mother and I were often in the gardens with my grandmother. My favorite time of year was chokecherry and lilac harvesting season. The house would always smell wonderful this time of year. We foraged for chokecherries to bring home and make jam. Lilac lemonade was always a favorite on a hot day. Little did I know how impactful these plants, herbs, trees, fruits and flowers would be on me.
Later on, I obtained my Certificate of Professional Herbology from the East-West School of Planetary Herbology. I was lucky enough to study under Michael and Lesley Tierra, two of the most influential herbalists in the Western Hemisphere.
In 2016, I officially founded my company MoonFarma Herbal Apothecary. My mission is to educate and empower individuals, communities and organizations about overall well-being through herbal remedies. Connecting people to their natural roots all with an eye towards sustainability.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall my herbal journey has come naturally; however, school was very intense as I was learning over 500 herbs, their properties, energies and how they affect us. Starting a business from ground up has also been a definite learning experience. I have done countless hours of research and because I’m a one-woman show, that means I’m also the product developer, scientist, producer, shipper, graphic designer, photographer, web designer, content creator and anything in between. With that said, I have really enjoyed learning and experimenting.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At MoonFarma Herbal Apothecary, I strive to create herbal goods that help people take care of themselves in a preventative way. I make anything from balms, salves, teas, tinctures to health and wellness self-care items. I am a teacher at heart and enjoy bringing others back to their roots.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
The desire to educate as many people as I can reach is the most important success criteria that I have today. Helping people find local plants they can harvest themselves to make remedies in their own home is my mission. Hearing from clients that herbal preventative medicine has improved their life and the way they live is so fulfilling.
