Check Out Bailey Pompea’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bailey Pompea.

Hi Bailey, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m originally from the Dallas, Texas area, but moved to Denver about 10 years ago to go to law school. Since that point, I’ve hopped from Denver to San Francisco, and back to Denver – all as a civil trial attorney. I currently practice at a law firm called Hackstaff & Snow, LLC – I and my colleagues generally represent small businesses and individuals through all aspects of a case. In particular, I often go to trial in many Colorado counties – it is quite exhilarating and challenging at the same time.

Being a trial attorney is high-stress and often requires dealing with unique challenges and situations within short timeframes. So, a couple of years ago, I started a food blog to take photography of food and showcase local Denver establishments and products, and even some around the country.

The food blog is really my release from the stresses of work and my own personal anxiety issues – I find it is a relaxing and rewarding hobby, and I’ve met so many wonderful people throughout this process. I hope to continue in my career and my “side hustle” in the years to come, and continue to showcase all that Colorado has to offer.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In terms of my career, I would say one of the bigger struggles is being a woman trial attorney. While the profession has advanced in terms of including women over the years, I feel as though we still have much to overcome, as I am often ridiculed or not taken seriously due to my status as young woman attorney. This, honestly, fuels me to be even better and continue to strive to be as successful for my clients as possible. I hope to set an example for other young female trial attorneys through my work, and am glad to see that the dynamics in this profession are starting to change for the better.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As mentioned before, I am a civil trial attorney. This means I litigate on behalf of many individuals and small businesses in terms of contract disputes, construction defect litigation, employment rights litigation, real estate litigation, insurance disputes, and even cryptocurrency and bank disputes. There’s really never a dull moment in my practice.

I would say that I’m generally known for being a friendly yet stern attorney who enjoys going to trial and advocating for her clients’ rights. What sets me apart is that I have experience as both a defense and plaintiff attorney, so I advocate for everyone who might be in need. Also, I would like to think my clients love my amazing sense of humor… hopefully.

On the side, as also mentioned, I have a food blog, where I express my creativity and passion for food photography and advocating for Denver businesses and restaurants, and, on occasion, interesting national food products. I think I have a unique photo editing style that really makes my photos pop – and also a few lawyer puns here and there definitely help (#youvebeenserved). I absolutely love collaborating with industry folks, and hope to expand on this more in the future. There are so many amazing bloggers and photographers in the Denver area – I just hope to meet everyone one day and collaborate on more projects.

I think it’s a real challenge balancing both of these aspects of my life – but this is something I excel at. And, it definitely helps with the never ending stress of being an attorney – something I hope more of my professional colleagues are able to find in their own personal lives.

What makes you happy?
There are many things that make me happy – friends, family, my wonderful husband of 5 years, and my doggo Mia. I am also an avid concert-goer (especially Red Rocks) – it is a little known fact that I play multiple instruments, including oboe (former band nerd here), and bass guitar. I would say that my food blog gives me a lot of creative fulfillment, as I’m able to showcase food in a light that’s both exciting, tasty, interesting, yet accessible. I like to put a vibrant and almost excessive spin on my photos, different from the standard food photography that’s staged in restaurants (which is seriously amazing in its own right).

I love doing this because I like to share my creative vision with everyone, and hopefully inspire some to check out some fun Denver restaurants and businesses!

There’s also no doubt that I thoroughly enjoy my career – I’m super competitive and love a challenge, so being a lawyer is a wonderful fit. There’s nothing better than advocating for a client and achieving a positive outcome – I’m humbled by those I’ve met over the years through their struggles. I just hope I’m able to get them through a difficult stage in their lives.
