Check Out Becca Dollard’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becca Dollard.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Like many entrepreneurs, my business was born from a place in my life that I couldn’t look away from. I couldn’t NOT build this business because of the need I once had for what I’m doing now.

When I was a new mom and my daughter became a toddler, I remember standing at the kitchen sink one day crying because I was so TIRED. I was no longer tired from lack of sleep, I was tired of being me. Everything I had ever dreamed of was all here, but I didn’t feel capable to carry it. I found myself mentally and emotionally struggling without any idea how to care for myself while in the weeds of parenting. It felt like I was holding everything else together, but I was slowly falling apart. In motherhood groups, we talked about the act of parenting. But it wasn’t my parenthood that was drowning- it was me. It was our marriage. It was the straws of life that seemed to break me in moments I didn’t expect. The laundry, the house, people pleasing, toddler tantrums, being triggered and overstimulated by my husband and daughter.

Motherhood was my dream job. It was my goal in life. But once I found myself there, I didn’t recognize the life I had compared to the one I expected as a mom. This was when I found life coaching and personal growth. I was familiar with therapy for trauma and crisis, but in that season, I needed support for everyday normal life, relationships, and motherhood. I needed depth and support for who I was and not just my role as a mom. I didn’t have the emotional capacity to go back to deep digging into past traumas, but I still wanted something. Day after day in that season, I showed up to heal and work on myself, and years later- everything felt totally different. Through life coaching, reading, and listening to non-fiction and integrating and implementing those tools in every facet of life (the hard work of practicing and not just consuming).

I was living in a way that I loved, and I actually loved and liked myself, my body, my relationships, my motherhood- EVERYTHING. Life hadn’t stopped life-ing, but I had learned how to relate, react, and respond differently to myself and everything around me. Life coaching gave me the freedom, peace, and practical support that I spent years craving.

Fast forward to starting my business, I had a spark that started caving to be a coach. My second kiddo had started preschool and I just couldn’t ignore this desire and aching to build this space. To create a DEPTH community and resources for moms, that was for who they were. Women were craving depth and growth, we wanted to heal- but we needed to do that in a community and with a mentor who wasn’t just accommodating to the season of motherhood- but was IN IT. Why not me? I had always wanted to help people and had so many strengths in helping and caring for others.

This is how The Motherhood Mentor was born. Starting out as a life coach I worked intentionally under the direct support of incredible life coaches and therapists to help me build out a coaching model, practice, and personal life that was integrity not only for me but for my clients. I continue to prioritize my own healing, integrity, and support as one of the most important facets of my coaching practice and my business.

Refusing to build a business on the back of burnout for me or my family was and has been pivotal for me. That has not been an easy boundary or intention as I’ve navigated the constant ups and downs of business building while also having a “real” life that is not just surviving but truly feels amazing all while still in the weeds of my own healing journey, parenting, marriage, and caring for our home. Keeping my own healing and growth work in practice and continuing to be mentored by others have been one of the greatest factors of success in every area of my business.

Any success in my business from the actual coaching, the client wins and testimonials, to marketing, to the behind-the-scenes work, to life/work balance and how this business FEELS- all came from years and continued implementing of healing and health- that I learned and continue to learn from life coaching.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Building a business as a mom is anything but smooth. Do I have both a business I love AND motherhood I enjoy? HELL YES. Is that balanced and easy to carry and hold both – no.

Balance has been a big struggle both within the business itself but also in navigating work/life balance as a mom.
I no longer think of balance in my life as having an even distribution of life and work. I now see balance as being able to trust and use my gas and breaks appropriately in every area of my life, and continuing to prioritize my capacity and needs. When I care for myself really well on deep mental, emotional, and physical levels, I am able to show up in leadership and values for both work and home- even in those struggles. When you trust yourself as the driver, a smooth road isn’t necessary to live well.

Most people tend to assume that messy middles happen only on your way to your goals, and then you arrive and then there is this really pretty bow that gets tied on your business. Or your life. Or healing. I don’t subscribe to that anymore. Messy middles happen no matter how healed or successful you become. There is no magical “after” for business, and certainly not for motherhood. In fact, the more my business grows – the bigger the bumps and struggles feel or look.

But we don’t need smooth roads nor do we have some “arrival” point on this road of life or business. When you build trust and leadership in yourself, you trust the driver even when the road is sketchy. That’s especially true as you lead a business that greatly impacts not only your life but others.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a life coach and mentor to moms and moms-to-be. I use boundaries, emotional and somatic care, & sovereignty to guide and support women back into self-belonging, whole identity, wholehearted living, and leadership.

What makes this work different is the deep conversations that skip the fluff and bring hope back to hard conversations around real life, motherhood, and healing. Behavior and goal-focused coaching are great, but you also deserve care for your emotions and soul.

I specialize in boundaries, balance, holistic healing, enneagram, identity, and healing from people pleasing and perfectionism.

What makes you happy?
There are so many little small things everywhere that make me happy at moments. My kids hug me or watch me do something that lights them up. Laughing with my husband, listening to good music, and a good iced americano.

Watching the light and energy come back to a client’s eyes. Reading and playing with my family make me happy.

Spending time in deep connection with friends.

But I think even more than those little moments of happiness, I love that I feel a deep joy and gratitude for my life. I’m not always “happy” and the less I pursue needing to always feel super good in small moments- the more DEEP happiness I feel.

Sometimes the best things in life are on the other side of momentarily not feeling good. My deep joy and gratitude were once on the other side of grief and anger. That wasn’t “happy”, but I think being able to be present and love myself in it and through it, then made me a deeper lasting happy person. For a long time, I chased happiness but couldn’t feel it more than in fleeting moments. Now I am happy in a way that I don’t just see, but that I deeply feel.

Happy in a long-lasting satisfying life.
