Check Out Chiara Poscente’s Story

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Chiara Poscente.

Hi Chiara, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Chiara Poscente. Born and raised an Alberta girl, I currently reside in Northern. Colorado with my hunky cowboy husband and our menagerie of beautiful animals. Basically, I’m living the dream I have wanted since I spoke my second word… ”Horse”.

As a city kid, horses started out existing for me in that beautiful space of imagination between fantasy and reality. I knew they were out there. I just didn’t know how to get to them. Out of sheer tenacity, I managed to finagle my way into a birthday trail ride followed by pony camp, then weekly lessons that turned into a lease and, eventually, a horse of my very own.

During my formative years, I successfully trained and competed under many big names through upper levels in Three Day Eventing and Show Jumping, and I accumulated many fancy human accolades. While I am proud of these achievements, there came a point in my journey where I began to recognize the troubles of the ridden horse and have since spent my days (and many nights) dedicated to the pursuit of becoming a Centaur.

For the last decade, my passion has been working with equines to help them develop their minds and bodies in a way that cultivates functional movement and posture, a love of their job, and trust in their Guardians. I love helping my human students discover the parts of themselves that honor their spirit and the spirit of their equine partner.

I offer a holistic approach to horse care and connection with a focus on nervous system health, communication, and biomechanics for horses and humans.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a lonely journey in many ways, as going against the status quo isn’t widely celebrated… While there is a renaissance happening in the equine industry, and it is wonderful, there is also a lot of division, hate farming, shaming, and resistance to change.

There’s an anxious mindset and general entitlement of the consumer to immediate gratification, which can cause the role of the professional to feel dejected. There hasn’t always been reliable access to peer-reviewed studies, so the learning curve has often felt limited by erroneous educational content intended to elevate individual status.

On a personal note, when we truly see our horses as mirrors to our soul, there can be a lot that comes up, and learning how to balance the mind + heart + body conversation can be triggering. I have struggled in the past with setting healthy boundaries around my time and energy and have had to put a lot of work into prioritizing and managing what I can offer and when to myself, my horses, and others.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe you can tell us more about your work next?
I am an Equine Professional who focuses on Complete Horse Wellness and Connection and Equine Facilitated Human Development.

I specialize in:

This is a fairly wide array of offerings, which I feel can be valuable for those seeking a holistic approach to their horsemanship. Over the years, I have learned the value of cultivating a safe learning environment for horses and humans and strive to provide this to my charges and their guardians.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I was an adrenaline junkie for much of my life. I engaged in what many could consider high-risk physical activity, i.e., Eventing/Steeplechase, Semi-Pro Downhill Skateboard Racing, and a list of hobbies that resulted in various injuries.

As an adolescent, I struggled with severe anxiety and depression and turned to substance use and abuse to cope. I certainly consider this risk-taking behavior and feel grateful daily to still be alive and healthy.

Into adulthood, I focused on inner healing, and as I became more and more grounded and loving, my desire for risk-taking greatly diminished. Or at least, my idea of an acceptable risk is vastly different than it once was.

In terms of professional risks- I’ve become accustomed to continuously evolving my practice and genuinely feel good about pushing myself to try new things and experiment.

At this time, I feel confident in my motto and mantra- “And ye harm none, do as ye will.”
