Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Stuckey.
Chris, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in Denver. I fell in love with electronic music after being introduced to Skrillex and quickly decided that’s all I wanted to do! I started Djing in high school in 2011 on a computer program called virtual Dj, just for fun because I wanted to make my own mixes to snowboard to. After high school, I moved to Breckenridge to teach snowboarding and ended up doing that for about 8 years! I would spend all my free time after work Djing and eventually I would invite my friends over while I was just playing around and having fun. After a while, I felt confident enough to start playing house parties and then some of the small bars around town. In 2018 I landed a regular Sunday night at a small bar called the Brown. From 2018-2020, I played almost every Sunday over ski season and built a following of people who liked house music because there was nowhere else that really played it in town! When the pandemic happened, I felt lost and didn’t know how to do anything with music unless I figured out a way to make my own music so I figured it was time to learn how to do that properly! I reached out to an internationally touring Dj and Producer by the name of Dillon Nathaniel and he took me under his wing and showed me how to make music! I would spend every ounce of time I could doing that and when February of 2021 rolled around, I figured it was time for me to come back home to Denver and see If I could get involved in the club scene. I did some live streams out of garages and basements and then finally got in touch with a bar that was doing limited capacity shows. From there I managed to grow my network of people in the club scene and went from playing at this dive bar to playing at the Black Box, Larimer Lounge, Vinyl. Temple, Bar Standard, and the Church all in under one year from the day that I moved to Denver. Today I am still writing as much original house music as I can and have about 15 songs that I’m constantly shopping to labels hoping to get something picked up soon!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all! From covid to learning how to make music and then learning how to make music that makes people want to dance it’s been a huge learning curve and I still don’t feel like I have reached my full artistic potential.
I had a lot of bar managers and owners in Breckenridge and even one in Denver refuse to pay me for my work and time spent but thankfully that has all gone away now!
Sometimes it doesn’t feel real that I have done as much as I have done in such a short amount of time and that kind of plays with my mind a bit although the local scene here in Denver has been nothing but supportive and welcoming!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I Dj and make House music! In the Dj world, I am known for complex mixing and a unique Dj style that keeps the club moving.
I am most proud of the music that I make and that I can play over half of a Dj set on music that I’ve written
What sets me apart is my unique percussion rhythms and sound design
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Being genuine and true to who I am and being able to translate that to music and onto the dance floor
