Check Out Cortez Daniel’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cortez Daniel.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Tones began as a group of friends who shared a deep passion for music. We spent countless hours jamming together and dreaming of one-day making music that would inspire others. As we grew older, we each pursued higher education and discovered a love for educating others as well. We found that teaching music was the perfect way to share our passion and inspire others to pursue their own dreams.

Today, we are proud to be both educators and musicians. We perform at local events, sharing our love of music with the community. We offer music lessons as well workshops for high school students that focus on helping young people explore their options for post-graduation in college and the importance of pursuing their passions in their career choices. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to pursue their dreams, and we are committed to helping others achieve their goals through music education.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting tones collective was definitely not an easy process. It took a lot of hard work to get things off the ground and find a way to create income, but after about a year, things started to feel easier. After our first year, we created half of a ballet for ourselves and also moved our business to Denver so that we could all be closer together.

However, we’re currently experiencing a lot of change which has made it challenging to balance our work lives with our social lives. We are having some changes amongst our leadership and trying to find out what that means for our business and how we should move forward.

That being said, we’re committed to making this work even during times of growth and change. Overall, while our journey with Tones Collective has had its ups and downs, we’ve persevered through the challenges and found a way to navigate through them.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a music director, composer, and piano/voice teacher with a passion for helping people find joy in music. I regularly teach at the Colorado Music Institute and the Evergreen Children’s Chorale, where I work with students of all ages and abilities.

One of my strengths is my ability to work well with students who have behavioral issues or need special accommodations. I believe in treating all students with respect and meeting them where they’re at in their musical journey. In addition to teaching, I am also an active performer in our community.

One of my proudest accomplishments is my YouTube page, Cortez Daniel composer, where I share my original compositions and arrangements. I’m also excited about the ballet I’m currently working on called Gliese 667c, and the EP I created with my friends.

I specialize in teaching music theory to young children, starting at 18 months old up to 4 years old, and I’ve been told that my way of teaching is fun and full of energy, which helps to keep my students engaged and excited about music.

Overall, I excel in helping people of all ages and abilities find their own unique joy in music.
