Today we’d like to introduce you to Cory Cyone.
Hi Cory, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started one day about two years ago when I decided to look into different forms of meditation. As I started looking at Mala beads on Etsy, I decided to try to make one for myself. After some research, I took a Mala making class at The Crazy Merchant. I made one for myself and then I made a few more as gifts. I found that I really enjoyed making them. The process was very therapeutic and I wanted to share them with others. So I decided to start my own business named Raptor Jewels. Now, nearly two years later, I have created nearly 100 Malas and my Etsy store is up and running with more than 60 Sales! Just recently, I started selling a selection of Mala Beads at Yoga6 DTC in Denver.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The main challenge I faced was starting a new business during COVID-19. Supplies were limited and took much longer to arrive. New orders took longer to ship and many of the processes involved with starting a new business were much slower than usual.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the owner and main artist at Raptor Jewels. I create handmade jewelry and meditation beads specializing in hand-knotted Mala beads and Meditation beads. Just recently, I made my 60th Sale and celebrated the 1 year Anniversary of Raptor Jewels! I also received Etsy Star Seller Status for April and May 2022 for receiving all 5 Star Reviews and providing excellent service!
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I would say timing, practice, and determination played more of a role than luck. I also have amazing people in my life that have supported me every step of the way with advice and encouragement. One day I decided to take a mala making class and it led to starting my own business and the discovery of an artistic talent that I was not aware of before.
