Check Out Cynde Denson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynde Denson.

Cynde, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story begins with the fact that I consider myself a resolute lifelong learner. In other words, I am like a sponge with a burning desire to learn and practice new things. That mindset got me into my first yoga class in 1991, based on a recommendation from a friend.

My hamstrings were tight from jogging and my lower back aching from over-exertion at the gym. I was stressed and tired. Touching my toes was impossible. I was emotionally depleted from driving hundreds of miles every day for my job. Sitting still for more than five minutes was not in my mode of operation. Quite plainly, I was tired of running and did not know how to do anything else.

The class was hard. Breathe, stretch mindfully, and sit still; my initial reaction was “not in this lifetime”. My personality and upbringing told me to keep pushing, not slow down. The only thing that kept me coming back (other than the fact that I had paid for six sessions) was how amazing I felt after the class. Soon after that initial series of classes completed, I found my way to the Kripalu Center in Lenox, Massachusetts for an introductory weekend.

That weekend, over 30 years ago, was profound beyond words. We breathed, practiced gentle yoga postures, and relaxed. By the second day, I was filled with a sense of peace like nothing I had ever experienced. That was the start of being hooked on yoga for life. Ultimately, that led me to dive further into mindfulness meditation, explore training as a coach, and teach transformative business skills.

My journey has been one of striving to balance these practices with a demanding corporate career and a rich personal life.  This time has also been fraught with many inevitable joys and difficulties. For me, it is about finding peace and equanimity with all of life – the joyous, the challenging, and everything in between.

My passion is to serve others by sharing the power of the contemplative practices that have informed my life so dramatically. I truly believe that doing so will transform the quality of our physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Lastly, I am a committed wife, stepmom, grandmom, pet owner, and lover of the outdoors.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Not by a long stretch. Life is not always smooth sailing. My struggles included divorce, the untimely death of loved ones, moving often in my youth, and spending much time in airports, planes, and hotels away from my family as I forwarded my career. I imagine that your readers will resonate with similar situations!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Since 1992, I have been teaching contemplative practices part-time, while working in a corporate career full time. In 2020, I “semi-retired” from my corporate work to focus on more deeply developing my coaching and teaching business. That career spanned 25+ years working in sales, marketing, operations, and training. In 2012, I leveraged that experience into contract facilitation and consulting for one of the world’s top 20 training companies.

In that capacity, I taught productivity and leadership classes throughout the United States. In addition to my classes and private clients, I still do part-time contract facilitation for a national training company and am the author of a blog, Threading the Needle of Transformation, featured on my website.

My credentials include a 500-Hour Kripalu Yoga certification, Vinyasa Yoga Certification, Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification through the Awareness Training Institute & the Greater Good Science Center at the University of California, Berkeley, and multiple certifications in leadership, productivity, and the DISC system of behavioral styles.

I graduated from Co-Active® Training Institute’s rigorous life coach training, an International Coaching Federation-approved program. Through my business, Peace Clarity Purpose, LLC, I offer coaching, yoga, mindfulness meditation, and workshops, some of which I lead in partnership with my husband Craig, a retreat leader, and Core Energetics Practitioner.

We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
Simply being alive is a risk. The major risks I have taken include moving around the country to experience different things in life and following my passion career-wise. I would put myself in the medium-high-risk category.
