Check Out Day Corso’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Day Corso.

Day Corso

Hi Day, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey with tattooing is one that is untraditional and purely determined by the support of family, friends, and community. I am a self and community-taught hand poke tattooer. I learned of the magic of the tattoo world a little over a decade ago when I grew up in Youngstown, Ohio. I started my learning journey with the support and love of my family and friends offering to be the first of the canvases I received the honor to tattoo.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I took a break from tattooing to learn and expand my knowledge in brand design and now specialize in brand design and handpoke tattooing. The traditionally gate-kept knowledge of tattooing was my first impression of the industry. It wasn’t until I reached out to queer and BIPOC tattooers that I started learning more tips and skills while they adorned my body.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Through the process of adorning my own body and those I care for, hand poke tattooing holds a collectively created container of joy, community healing, and deep connection between others and self. the harmonious process of hand poke tattooing affirms my body, others’ bodies, and relations with the world around me.

I’m so grateful to have this route of expression in energy and feelings to hold a connective opportunity to ancestry and community. My style stems from playing with abstraction and relations to nature, energies, and lighting. Embracing every single interaction of ink and skin, the aesthetic of their handpoke tattoos often has a cozy ethereal, and sometimes funky feel.

What are your plans for the future?
