Check Out Derek Carpenter’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Derek Carpenter.

Hi Derek, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2012 I decided to get serious about the art career. Since then things have evolved from colored pencils to painting, to live performance, to incorporating various mediums such as lighting and sculpture. During this time, two clothing lines have launched, I have been blessed enough to perform at Red Rocks a few times, and my work has been installed and exhibited at countless events across the nation.

Since its inception, the art project (Art of One), is a social enterprise that donates half of all profits to non-profits that promote sustainability and conservation. During this period of expansion for my art career, I have simultaneously managed a research facility at CU Boulder and run a carpentry contracting business with a few employees.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In 2012 I went through cancer treatment for Lymphoma and now have a clean bill of health. This experience, surprisingly, was one of the biggest catalysts for getting serious about my art career.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My offering includes murals, sculptural and lighting art installations, live painting, painted sculpture, and large acrylic paintings. The style is very precise, clean, dimensional, and psychedelic. Although the main motivation is to enjoy the creative process, it is also truly wonderful to meet so many people that derive enjoyment from the art.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Mental health and discipline -> motivation, growth, and productivity.
