Check Out Derek Dozbaba’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Derek Dozbaba.

Hi Derek, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Derek Dozbaba, I am an artist, multidisciplinary designer, and avid adventurer in Evergreen, Colorado. I have a strong foundation in technical graphics and a deep rooted passion for craftsmanship. I studied Design and Technical Graphics at the Art Institute of Colorado after beginning my academic path CSU in Mechanical Engineering.

My career has spanned the outdoor industry—designing gear, apparel, and collaborating with fabricators—to creating custom trophies for events like Red Bull and Oakley. I have also had the awesome opportunity to collaborate with some local businesses to paint large scale murals that add another level of life and vibrancy to a space. And, beyond my expansive exploration of Colorado, in 2020 my journey led me to Hawaii, where I spent three years studying and practicing indigenous farming practices- farming in natural food forests. And, applying my design skills to home remodeling and teaching technical art skills to children and adults in the community.

Today, I own and operate a small business, Dozbaba Design, where I create handcrafted, unique accessories, fine art and commercial signage. My line of accessories includes custom bow ties, bolo ties made from rare and exotic wood- blending traditional woodworking with modern design. I create each piece with the intention to inspire creativity and confidence in everyone. They have become signature, statement pieces for clients who value originality and detail.
Each tie is a unique, wearable piece of art!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s definitely had its challenges; Like most creatives trying to build a unique life built around art, I’ve faced times of financial uncertainty, put in long hours, and had to learn how to balance life, and business without losing my love of creating. I’ve also had to work hard to educate people on the value of handmade, small-batch products in a fast-paced world. Moving back to Colorado after Hawaii came with a major reset button but every challenge has pushed me to refine my craft, remain adaptable, and ultimately- keep moving forward.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The combination of design and meaningful craftsmanship is what I believe sets my work apart. With the business, I most proud of how personal each piece feels and how it tells a story. It’s not just about how it looks, but how it makes someone feel—confident, bold, and connected to something real.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success for me is about doing meaningful work, that supports my life, without compromising who I am. It’s being able to create valuable work with intention, connect with people, and have the freedom to shape my own path. If I can keep making things that matter to others and still feel proud of what and how I am producing—that’s true success.
