Check Out Dr. Ginger Wolfe’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Ginger Wolfe.

Hi Dr. Wolfe, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I remember wanting to be a doctor from the time I was a little girl. Growing up in a household where my mother always looked at preventative care first, I learned the significance of both natural and western medicine at a very young age and I knew then that I would grow up to be some kind of “holistic” practitioner someday. In my late teens, I developed some GI issues that no one seemed to be able to help. That became a bit of struggle throughout my college years and into grad school but being in Chiropractic college gave me some tools to manage it in the healthiest way possible and without any medications. After I had obtained my doctorate, I discovered that I had some amazing resources at my hands for special testing- I was finally able to nail down what was happening in my gut! I thought, “people need to know that there are more options out there with regard to their healthcare!”

I started my practice as a Chiropractor in 2001 but realized quickly that so many people were overly inflamed and quite frankly, sick. The crazy part of this is that they didn’t even know it! They had just chalked it up to “aging” or thinking that this was “just the way life goes”. As strange as it may sound, researching topics like physiology, immunology, and supplements became my late-night obsession. Integrative care became part of my practice very early on in my career but it wasn’t until I had moved back to Boulder in 2015, that I made it my sole focus and passion. I have since completed Functional Medicine University and obtained a diplomate (post-doctoral degree) from The American Board of Chiropractic Internists and now have a thriving Functional Medicine practice! So, what does Functional Medicine mean? In my office I consider it integrative, internal healthcare with a natural approach: I look at every system, run any all-necessary testing (including bloodwork), search for the root cause, and develop a holistic treatment plan that includes diet, exercise, supplements, and physical and emotional health. Most importantly, I make sure that I can answer the one question every patient should ask their doctor, “why?”.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I have to admit that I’ve been very lucky. Either lucky or just stubborn. In the 21 years of my career, I have started four separate practices and they have all been successful. My father and I were laughing about this the other day and I said to him “Dad, I don’t know if I’m a necessarily a great business person, I just think I’m just too excited about what I do to fail!’. I don’t stress too much about the business side. I just know that if you do good things, work really hard, and truly care about your patients, the universe will take care of the rest. And it has!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Locally, my practice is most known for natural hormone health and GI/Immune conditions. But globally, I’m most known for my work with a rare condition known as MdDS (Mal de Debarquement Syndrome). I’m super proud of my work with this condition because I’ve discovered a unique commonality in patients that’s linked to genetics and neurotransmitters called catecholamines. And I can relate with these patients because I have actually dealt with MdDS firsthand!

But… my brain is always thinking up more ways to provide necessary integrative care to our community. And we’ve got some big news! We are currently expanding into Holistic Women’s Care (including gynecology) in addition to hormone health. We want this to be the most comfortable, boutique experience for women! A visit they look forward to, rather than fret.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I think healthcare has already taken some huge shifts in the last 10 years. People have so much information at their fingertips and they often choose to take their health into their own hands because 1) they either aren’t getting answers or 2) they are concerned about costs. As a functional medicine practitioner, I get to be a detective for my patients and I think that’s what patients want and expect from their doctor. It’s possible we will be seeing a trend towards spending less money on insurance premiums and spending more money on an out-of-pocket comprehensive, deep dive into health and wellness. This is exactly why we are expanding in the area of Integrative Women’s Care. We’ve been listening to our patients needs and we’ve heard them! We know that they’re eager for a broader, more natural approach in this field of healthcare.
