Today we’d like to introduce you to Elise Esposito.
Hi Elise, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a family of foodies. My Italian grandma would show me how to make her famous meatballs and share her passion for Italian cuisine with me. I was blessed to live in different countries while growing up such as France and Japan. My mom took cooking classes wherever we would relocate and brought back these intoxicating and sometimes very pungent and questionable ingredients for my siblings and I to try.
I have been fortunate to travel the world my whole life, and being exposed to other cultures and flavors sparked this overwhelming passion for cooking. When I was old enough, I decided to take the next step in my culinary journey and attend Le Cordon Bleu in Pasadena California. From there, I continued my culinary arts studies in mountains in central Italy working with truffles. Since then, I became a private chef, had my own catering company, worked in family-owned restaurants, country clubs and taught cooking classes.
Throughout my culinary career, teaching cooking classes is when I fell in love with helping people. Showing them the tricks of the trade that I’ve picked up along the way. It brings me so much joy giving others the confidence needed in order to thrive in their own kitchen.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is it ever a smooth road working in the culinary industry? It’s a very challenging industry to work in with a lot of big personalities. It took some time for me to find my footing and my own voice in a very high stress and chaotic environment.
I took some much-needed time away from the industry to reset because burn out is REAL. It gave me a chance to reassess what I need, who I am as a chef and figure out how to approach the next stages in my career path in a healthy way.
Now more than ever I know that I don’t have to reinvent the wheel and myself in order to find happiness. Instead, I’m using what I know and love to motivate others to live better lives.
