Check Out Heather Hamilton’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Hamilton.

Hi Heather, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I had a passion for this industry when I was in high school, and at the age of 18 I received my license to be a Nail Technician. Through the years I gained experience from some of the best in the business and I knew one day I wanted to own my own salon. December 1,2012 that dream of mine came true. My good friend Diane Siegrist and I purchased a small salon with the hopes of someday expanding. That salon consisted of 4 Hair Stylists and 3 Nail Technicians. 6 years later we expanded. Our salon now consists of 16 Hair Stylists, 4 Nail Technicians, 4 Estheticians, 2 Massage Therapists and a team of front desk staff to help keep everything running smoothly.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?

Some of the more challenging issues has been recruitment and training of individuals for the salon. It has been an up and down roller coaster with finding the right fit with all the stylist and receptionist to make our salon work as efficient as possible. Diane and I pride ourselves not only having a team but building a family. That takes time to find the right fit.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I feel because we are a family and have such a bond with each other the clients enjoy coming into the salon. With that being said we get a lot of referrals and are very busy.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Honestly I believe Diane and I are each others mentor. We are constantly bouncing ideas off one another. We both knew exactly what we wanted for our salon. Her expertise is the business side and mine is more of the salon side.
