Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Person.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The Castle Rock Farmers Market has been running for over 30 years in Castle Rock, but has moved physical locations within Castle Rock several times. I took over in 2018 when the Farmer that started the Castle Rock Farmers Market petitioned the board to put me in charge after the Gentleman who worked at the CSU Extension and ran the market for years retired.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No it has not been easy, we have had to move locations due to Covid and changes throughout the city.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work as a full time Teacher of 26 years. I teach children with Special Needs. I am also a vendor at the Farmers Market myself, selling fruit from Palisade for the past 28 years. I also recently opened a BBQ Food Truck in the Northern Denver Metro Area. I have continued this work despite a life threatening accident in 2017 where I was in an explosion while BBQing that landed me in the Burn ICU for a month. I kept working (with a lot of help from my family of course) and keep persevering despite many challenges.
Any big plans?
I plan to retire from teaching and focus on the Farmers Market and my BBQ Food Truck
