Check Out Ina Marlowe’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ina Marlowe.

Hi Ina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been involved with theater my entire life. I have my BFA in Acting from Goodman School in Chicago at The Art Institute of Chicago. I have my MFA in Directing from The Goodman School at DePaul University. I founded and was Producing Artistic Director of Touchstone Theatre in Chicago. I merged Touchstone Theatre with Organic Theatre in Chicago and became Producing Artistic Director of the company. My Website is https://www.inamarlowe.com

I have directed numerous American, Midwest and Chicago Premieres as well as directed in New York and Regionally. I have worked with hands on with playwrights while directing their plays, notably Edward Albee, Wendy Wasserstein, and Sebastian Barry. I am currently in New York directing the World Premiere reading of Jenny Lyn Bader’s Buy Nothing, Remember Everything for La Femme Productions at The Signature Theatre.

In Denver, I have directed The Glass Menagerie at The Denver Theatre Company, my own adaptation of A Doll’s House as The Roe Green Artist at The University of Colorado, Boulder and plays at The University of Denver, where I have served as Adjunct Professor teaching Advanced Acting as well. In 2023 I was a founder and became President of The Board of Directors of Denver Theatre Ensemble where I directed TS Eliot’s The Waste Land, The Vanya Project and A Doll’s House, Part 2.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I was one of the first women Producing Artistic Directors in Chicago – and I’m in a very competitive profession, so of course it has not been easy.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I seem to be very good working “hands on” with playwrights and their new plays. They call me “the playwright whisperer” I’m also good working with actors and have been a guest artist and taught at a number of universities. I teach acting and directing privately. Having a BFA in Acting and an MFA in Directing allows me to understand both actors and playwrights. I’m also a visual artist, so I’m able to work well with designers.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I love to garden, I have a beautiful garden and love to work in it. I love my family, My husband and I have been married for 42 years, we have three children, and enjoy close relationships with them and their families. I love my art, and am very happy in the rehearsal room and in my art studio . I understand the nature of art – theater and visual and theater and working with artists is exceedingly fulfilling.
