Today we’d like to introduce you to Ipecac. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Ipecac’s guitarist, Ariadnee, put together the band in 2017, but really the only thing remaining related to that time period is the name. Almost immediately, the band experienced traction, opening for Samantha Fish at the Louisville Street Fair and winning Mile High Scenesters Battle of the Bands at Herman’s Hideaway. These events served as stepping stones to bigger and better things such as opening the 2019 Neon Masq festival at Summit and being a featured act on Denver Open Media’s Television Broadcast.
Evolving from those early days, the current lineup of the band with Kanyon Dickerson (drums), Tayte Eubanks (bass), Ariadnee Ziady (guitar) and Isabella Osborne (vocals) came together in February of 2020 and has been going strong ever since! Even through the pandemic, the band managed to gig in one form or another at least once a month via livestream or outdoor events and emerged even stronger for it. Ipecac has become a staple on the local Denver music scene and has been fortunate to play iconic Denver events such as the Underground Music Showcase and share the stage with other incredible Denver staples such as The Rocket Surgeons, Elektric Animals, Bury Mia, Pink Fuzz, Plasma Canvas and Trujillo Company. Additionally, they have opened for national touring acts such as Joyous Wolf and Scott Wilson of Saving Abel and played both independent and corporate venues such as AEG and Live Nation.
2022 has been incredible for the band and a year of milestones. Ipecac was voted Denver Westword’s 2022 Readers Choice for Best New Band and most recently, their single “Lost in Wonderland” was featured on I Heart Radios Channel 93.3 Locals Only Show with Alf Kremer. They’re also gearing up for a super busy fall schedule with shows planned across the Front Range including Ft. Collins!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a great ride for Ipecac, however the biggest challenge the band has faced was the changing members of the group over time prior to the current lineup. Finding people that see eye to eye and are good friends is not easy. However, the current lineup is amazing, having known each other in one form or another for years. Ariadnee and Tayte were actually in their first band together and have been friends since middle school. Tayte and Kanyon were both previously in a long-term band together and have been friends for just as long. Isabella is newest to the group having joined in February of 2020.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Ipecac’s style of music is Alternative Rock. As a four piece, the band blends together heavy rock styles such as Sabbath and Iron Maiden with the emotion and sound of more modern rock such as Muse and My Chemical Romance.
The band is so proud of the shows they’ve been able to play with all the amazing local bands they’ve been fortunate to share the stage with as well as the national acts they’ve been fortunate to open for. They’re also super proud of the music they’ve been able to release.
However, the one thing they’re most proud of is being a part of the incredible music scene here in Denver and being recognized along with all the amazing talent that is the Denver scene. There’s so much locally for music lovers of all genres and being able to go out on any day of the week and catch a live show is something that the band will never take for granted. It’s incredible being here in Denver.
The thing that sets Ipecac apart from others bands in the scene is their unique product in the Denver/Boulder market and across the Front Range. From the sound to the look, there are not many multi-gender bands who play the style of music that Ipecac does, yet because of their style, they are fortunate to be able to cross genres and play with many different, amazing acts that are relevant in the local scene today. For example, while Ipecac is on the heavier side of the spectrum, as mentioned previously, they’ve been able to play with so many other bands of other genres. They’re really lucky in that regard.
Any big plans?
Our plans for the future include releasing more music, playing bigger and better shows to a wider audience and expanding Ipecac’s brand beyond Colorado. We really would like to embed ourselves even more locally while at the same time expanding our reach beyond the local scene. Who knows where we will go, but we’re working really hard to get there!
