Check Out Jabari Burton’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jabari Burton. 

Hi Jabari, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story is not too complex nor as long as many, I began as a simple student of the arts. Just enjoying the creativity around me and learning as much as possible. Soaking up everyone’s technique and advice like a sponge. Though heavy into fashion at the moment, I am an aspiring filmmaker and writer, which is what I started out doing shortly after I graduated high school. I made a lot of music videos and edited shorts for a while before becoming a music artist myself. Over the years I honed my musical abilities and began making music, tons of music which can be found on Spotify/Apple/Tidal and etc. under my stage name BRVE. I continue to make music to this day, but the music happened to lead me to my biggest venture yet which happens to be my clothing line, The Brvery Elite. What started as a merch line for my music persona Brve, became its own entity and totally stood out on its own. I tried to design a few clothing items for selling for promotions but after making the first collection, I became so addicted to the creative process of designing and providing quality products to people. Things that aren’t overpriced and low value. Something that lasts and something you can feel made for my people. The thought of having that type of product and brand, just gave me all the motivation I needed, the drive needed to grow and take this to a level that all of my people can feel the benefits of it. 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No road worth traveling is smooth in my opinion. It’s a lot of adjusting and learning still to this day. I’m not expecting it to be smooth though and that’s what keeps me going. I know there will be bumps and slips along the way, but I am ready for it all. I don’t want to cut any corners or take anything the easy way. I try to let as many people know that ask for advice, the first thing you need is the grit and determination to be ready for whatever, because everything will feel like it’s working against you on some days, but it’s your mental that will keep you going, that will keep you overcoming those obstacles, The moment you give up, it’s over. I have had all the problems I think a startup can have, from financing the company, juggling my personal life, adjusting to the customers, dealing with the wholesalers, and just finding the blanks and material can be difficult and expensive. It does not come easy, and it may only get harder. My favorite quote to remind myself is “If we don’t quit, they can’t win”. 

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am BRVE. I have a bag of tricks really, from film writing to music production and now most recently fashion designer. I love the ability to create, taking the thought right from your head and bringing it to life gives me a feeling I can’t quite describe. I have made music since my JR year of high school. I have tons of music on streaming platforms under my stage name BRVE. My most passionate creative venture is filmmaking. I have not made a film yet, but it remains the biggest goal of my creative career. I want to be known as one of the greatest storytellers to date, whether the story is through film, music, or fashion. Everything has a story; it has a moment in time it comes from that can tell you a bit about what was going through that person’s mind. I think the only thing that sets anyone apart from anybody is the effort and grind you took to get where you are. Blessed with a creative mind that appears to be stronger than most, I am humble and I know that the biggest difference between my artistic ability and someone who may not be as good, is that I worked harder than most people to get to the level I am creatively. 

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is what you make it. For me, I want to be happy doing what I love. Being able to live my life as the artist I set out to be would be the success I am looking for. It isn’t about the money, it’s about the peace of mind.
