Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Rogers.
Hi Jamie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I spend the majority of my time in the mountains exploring all of the beautiful places in Colorado and beyond so I decided to pick up a camera to capture all of these moments. It started as a hobby but as I developed some skills, friends and family started providing really positive feedback on my work. I then took that to social media where my work was well received yet again. I now have quit my day job to pursue photography as a full-time career. I finally launched my website so I am excited to see how that goes!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The journey most certainly has been a bumpy one as there is so much to learn about photography and then turning that into a business is a whole other story. I now feel like I’m narrowing in on my photography focus but still have a lot to learn about the business side of things. It’s a little scary leaving my other career in the past and just diving right into this photography thing. Look forward to what the future holds as a small business owner though.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am not your typical photographer by any means. I love many different aspects of photography so I haven’t placed myself in any one “box” at this point. I shoot anything from landscape to cityscape but am probably best known for my drone photography. I also do a lot of light painting and long-exposure photography which you don’t necessarily see a lot of around the Denver area.
I am most proud of my dedication to the craft. There is a lot to learn about photography and I continue to study on a daily basis to grow my art. It’s overwhelming at times but dedicating time to it is the only way to get better.
I think the wide array of things I shoot definitely sets me apart. Most photographers pick a specific area and stick with that. I like learning about all types of photography and I try to blend different aspects from those contrasting styles to create something new and different.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I don’t have a specific “one day” type of memory but the thing that sticks with me most from my childhood was skateboarding with my friends. Skateboarding is a brotherhood and I had the best time every day I was able to get out and skate with the crew.
