Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Smith.

Jamie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started this gig 14 years ago and had no idea I’d be where I am today. I was just a mom with a camera, photographing my friends and family for fun during a season of transition in my career at the time.

Little did I know I’d receive such an outpour of love for my work followed by encouragement from everyone around me to start my own business. My journey from there came with a lot of uncertainties, challenges, mistakes, fears, and countless long hours. I truly owe all my past and current success to my supportive family, clients, and relationships built within this industry.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Ha! A far cry from smooth. For the most part, I’m self-taught. I made a lot of mistakes and really just failed forward in the very beginning. I had to wear a lot more hats than I was prepared for.

I quickly learned that taking photos was just a small fraction of running a photography business. There’s also the bookkeeping, taxes, marketing, editing, blogging, website design, SEO, album design, social media, networking, and all the fun overhead expenses, lol. Outsourcing some of this work has become my saving grace!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a wedding and portrait photographer, specializing in weddings, families, and kids of all ages ranging from newborns to high school seniors.

I really pride myself on how well I connect and interact with people. I’ve built the majority of my business on word of mouth and repeat clients because of this. I don’t think this can be taught. It just simply comes very naturally to me and has served me well in this industry.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
Camping with my family and spending a lot of time with my friends and cousins. The outdoors and family time has always been important to me and still are to this day.
