Today we’d like to introduce you to Jared Manibusan.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a 26-year-old barber who started a little over two years ago (Oct. 2018). I definitely did not think I would be barbering. I came to back to CO in 2012 with different intentions. I fell in love with barbering when I went to school for it and now I want to take it further, although I don’t know exactly where just yet. When I graduated school, I went straight to a studio salon with little to no clientele, I was working three jobs just to be able to pay my rent every week. I wasn’t full-time at the salon until I felt comfortable with the number of clients that were coming in, which wasn’t until about a year ago.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Building clientele Business goals/planning. Self-Marketing. Creative block.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Usually, people come to me to try new styles. I don’t specifically specialize in anything, I try to further my education in anything a Master Barber is trained in: haircuts, perming, creative colors, hair designs, and etc. I always stay up to trends/styles & techniques. I’m definitely proud of how far I came, especially with no experience at all from the start. Everything I do, I have done myself, and I’m proud to say that.
Can you talk about how you think about risk?
When it comes to taking risks, you just have to go for it. I’m faced with risks all the time. It can be as simple as trying a new style on a client, trying a new technique, or even taking on a new client. I can’t progress being comfortable where I’m at.
