Check Out Jessica Rupp’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Rupp.

Jessica Rupp

Hi Jessica, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I started baking with my mother when I was a child, we started simple, cookies, cupcakes, fudge, and whatever came to mind. As I got older, I found a new love for all things baking in every category.

I began baking more around the holidays for work get-togethers and family. About 3 years ago now, I started on the journey of diving into not only baking but decorating as well. In the last three years, I went from the baking basics to, Mexican sweets to gravity-defying popcorn bucket cakes. I like to take on a challenge and am always looking for new things to try.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This journey I am on to not only further my skills but create and grow my own business has not been easy. With anything in life, it comes with a lot of trial and error. Right now, some of my biggest struggles have honestly been getting out of my way and trusting in the talent that I have.

Not to say that every project, I have done has been smooth but that is not the case. There have been 12-hour days and fails I have had to overcome and a lot of messes to clean, the other struggle is trying to build a business while also being a single mom who is working full time and going to school.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a self-taught baker who has been slowly working on building my business from home. I would not say I have a specialty as I like to back anything from cake and cookies to candies, bread, and more. My name Mix It Upp stems from the idea of wanting to mix in every form of baking as possible just for the fun and to remember you can always change things up.

I can say that lately I have been known for the cakes that I have created over the last few years. Just last year, I made a gravity-defying cake, or my blacklight reactive cakes. I am also known to just try anything and everything. The majority of the stuff I have done over the last few years was completely new to me.

I am willing to take on any challenge whether it be flavor or design. I think I am most proud of the progress I have made in my skill level of what I have achieved in what seems to be such a short time. What sets me apart from others is my willingness to try anything and I will not give up until I meet my goal and I find peace in what I do.

Any big plans?
Right now, I do not have any current plans other than to continue to learn and grow and give people something that creates memories. My goal in the end is to own my bakery and just be able to fully do what I love.
