Today we’d like to introduce you to Joelle Prisco.

Hi Joelle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Mama JoJo Crayons is my small, woman-owned business offering handmade crayon sets and creative goods that encourage all ages to get creative and let art be a part of their lives. Each crayon set is made with only Crayola crayons.

I started to create these crayons as favors for my students when I was teaching. Then, when 2020 and Covid hit, I created letter crayons to teach my then 3-year-old daughter how to spell her name and the colors of the rainbow. It’s then that I officially put it “out there” on social media as: “Mama JoJo Crayons”.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Small businesses want to be seen! Starting a business is not easy at all… it impacts a whole family. I realized that when you do something that you LOVE, it’s what you’re MEANT TO DO, no matter how much work needs to be put into it! It’s that love that DRIVES your business to keep going!

I am a mom of two children. I have their school, sports, and other needs to take care of along with my business. I noticed that my business routine constantly gets interrupted. Something I learned through all of this was to be FLEXIBLE. Establishing a routine is important, but things don’t always go as “they are supposed to.”

I came to the understanding that some days I may work in the morning and afternoon creating my crayons while other days I may need to work at night when my kids go to bed. When I’m calm and flexible, that’s when my best work gets accomplished!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I was an elementary school teacher – I have a fine arts degree. I left my stable teaching career and went after my creative outlet, my dream to create!

My crayon sets are well thought out: from the color scheme, theme, sensory needs, scents, packaging, photographs for posts, and coloring sheets! Everything mentioned here is done by me and gets delivered with the help of my husband. I want my crayons to be a quality-handmade product that makes both kids and adults happy and excited to use them!

Don’t listen to others – you have to do YOU!
