Check Out John Minen’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Minen.

John Minen

Hi John, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I opened Colorado Sports in August 2017 after spending a little over a year as an associate Doctor with the Olympic Team providers for the games in London and Rio. My dream was always to start a practice to help take care of the athletes who are injured but don’t require surgery and to optimize one’s performance so that athletes and individuals can reach their health and athletic potential.

The journey began as an injured athlete myself with caged potential limited by the lack of quality affordable care. I found myself bouncing between orthopedists who would just confirm my problems by restating my issues to me in Latin and bodyworkers who didn’t quite understand my goals or the anatomy. I set my intention to be the best bodyworker and provider and wanted to learn from the best. And now here we are.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not. Chiropractors graduate with a massive amount of student loan debt, around 250k, just for professional school. Obtaining a loan to start a business is nearly impossible with that amount of debt. Add the pandemic into the mix and the mandatory shutdown.

Landlords were not kind as we had massive amounts of overhead with no income coming in. On the emotional side, it is difficult to provide services to the demographic of athletes and individuals that most need our help and keep our doors open. Definitely a bumpy road but we are happy to be where we are now.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in Active Release Techniques (ART) which is a well-known and sought-after soft tissue therapy that has been used to treat Olympic athletes for several years. We have had the joys of helping individuals make Olympic Teams, returning from surgeries, and even working on movie sets!

What truly separates our practice is the time we spend with the patient. Most doctors spend 15 minutes or less with a patient while we are hands-on for the entire duration of the 60-minute appointment.

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Starting a business is a huge risk, however, the rewards have been quite high. Every entrepreneur takes risks, however, they are easier to take when it is something you are passionate about.
