Check Out Jonathan Redeye’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Redeye.

Hi Jonathan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Jonathan “Redeyez” Redeye, 28.

Growing up on the Tonawanda reservation (Iroquois Tribe, Seneca Nation) in New York is why I am who I am today. It made me realize the world’s cruel nature at a young age. But it also taught me a sense of community culture and respect not only for each other but also for the world around us, so it has my undying gratitude.

My musical journey started at 11, shortly after losing my father to alcoholism. What began as poetry quickly formed into the structure of hip-hop. I then begin writing and freestyling with anybody in my school or the surrounding area to perfect my craft. I remained a local MC rapping on corners and porches until I met “Duane’s Primo Johnson” when I was 18. I was then featured on my first recorded track, “No Filter,” from the album “Mixed Feelings Vol. 1” from there, it was a snowball effect featuring on mixtapes, albums, and eventually making my debut mixtape (The Movement) hitting up promoters and artists alike looking for any opportunity to perform. I then began getting booked in Rochester and Buffalo for local shows and opening up for national acts such as Krayzie Bone, Chris Webby, Ace Hood, KRS-ONE, and Warren G, to name a few. Making a name for myself on stage, I was only lacking one thing, A catalogue of my original music, so I began buying YouTube beats and contacting any producer friends that I knew.

Shortly after meeting and touring with Devan Child, things began to fruition, dropping my debut EP, “Long Days and Longer Nights.” My time in New York came to an end as my plan to move to Denver; Colorado, finally came to light in 2018 on my quest to branch out my brand Redeyez. Fast forward to 2022, and I have created my own business, “Respected Entertainment,” been on five national tours, and released music consistently featuring songs with artists such as King Iso, Caine, Camino, and SwizZz. Performing frequently to stay active in the scene, Redeyez is an explosive artist with a wide range of flavours when it comes to music. Experimenting with lyricism over bass music and staying true to his hip-hop roots, He is one artist you will want to be sure to catch if he’s on a line up near you.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced?
Growing up on a reservation, it’s known that poverty, addiction, and violence are abundant.

Losing my father at a young age due to alcoholism forced me to be the man of the house, living with a family of all women: my mother and three sisters.

I’ve been living on my own ever since I was expelled from high school in 11th grade.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an independent artist/promoter. I love organizing events and giving young new artists chances I wish I could’ve had growing up.
I’m doing this for myself and the like-minded people who share my vision.
