Check Out Justin Jimenez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Jimenez.

Justin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started listening to hip-hop music as young as I can remember, maybe when I was 12-13 years old, I always loved how Lil Wayne would say some crazy punchlines or How Kayne would sing and rap on the same song. One of my friends from high school was rapping and making his own music, he showed me his music set up at his house, it opened my eyes to realize that I can be comfortable at home to make my own music. I later then wrote my first song on a YouTube beat at the age 15. I wrote my own track and recorded it on my own at home on FL Studios. I always wrote and recorded my own music ever since. I’m now 21 and I’ve been making changes to my sound. It took me a while to find my voice but I finally did.

With my experiences as a kid to who I am today, it made me realize that having a high-pitched voice for a male is okay and that having a different sound is way more better than sounding like everyone else. My music is more R&B/Pop/hip-hop. I don’t really have a genre for my music, but I do think my sound will be big one day!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I haven’t had much support when it comes to music, it’s hard finding people to support you for shows, for each song, and even merch. If you don’t have that fan base to start with, then selling tickets, getting views, and selling merch will be hard to start with. I just hope next year I get more people to notice my work.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I engineer my music and I wrote my own music. I’m known for being a pop artist. I’m not known too big for anything yet but what can set me apart from others is I’m a transmale. It’s not something I like to glorify but that does make me different. I can’t hit high notes and low notes all by myself, that makes my music more meaningful to me. I’m just proud that I’ve gotten this far and that some people say my music has been getting better.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Probably the fact I’m trans. I started transitioning when I was 16. (Female to male)
