Check Out Katelyn Harrison’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelyn Harrison

Hi Katelyn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My health journey, that sparked my entrepreneurial endeavors, starts in 2011 when my health declined significantly: there were many stress factors at play that could have contributed to this decline. I had severe gut issues (pain after eating, bloating, indigestion, diarrhea, etc), hormonal issues (painful periods, short cycles, PMS, etc.) and I was suffering from some pretty bad depression. My family did not have health insurance and I couldn’t afford much out of pocket. I did what I could with the resources I had but struggled for years with no clear answers.

Fast forward to 2015, I got married, moved to Colorado, got a job and thankfully health insurance. I scheduled an endoscopy (for celiac testing), colonoscopy, lab work to test my thyroid and I was told everything was “fine” and I just had IBS. In 2016 I experienced my first miscarriage. In 2019-20 I unfortunately endured 3 more miscarriages. Doctors continued to tell me I was fine and that I “was young and still had time” since I was in my 20s.

Meanwhile, I saw other friends and family struggling with fertility issues & cancer. I started asking “why?” I was introduced to a book called “sicker, fatter, poorer” and a brand called Beautycounter and my reading and research began. My eyes were opened to the toxic soup we live in and I slowly started reducing my toxin load through my products, certain detoxes, supplements & dietary changes.

In 2020 we got new health insurance and more freedom to find a new doctor. I finally found someone who was willing to help me find some answers. We did more thorough lab work (which led to a Hashimoto diagnosis) and tested my progesterone and more. My progesterone was significantly dropping making my body unable to support a pregnancy. I was finally getting answers! During these tumultuous years, I was able to put most of my autoimmune symptoms into remission which significantly improved the quality of my life.

Today, I have 3 beautiful children and expecting our 4th! Today, I love spending time with my family and guiding other men & women on a path to healing that starts at home. Healing is possible! You are meant to feel better!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Once my health challenges were mostly solved (or at least in remission), our journey to parenthood and my entrepreneurial endeavors were the next great challenge. We were blessed with a set of twins in 2021 after our many losses and started out as NICU parents during a high wave of Covid. Our twins were born around 28 weeks and spent 3 & 4 months in the NICU. I walked away from my full-time 9-5 to be present to our babies and focus on my career as an entrepreneur with Beautycounter. I was a consultant for 6+ years and it gave me the freedom and flexibility to be with our littles. I loved educating my clients and I felt so confident in the benefits of our low-tox home that we were bringing our immunocompromised babies to.

Fast forward to 2024 and my successful Beautycounter business came to end when the company announced its unexpected “temporary” shut down. I was devastated as I considered new options. Change can be scary but is almost ALWAYS good! I now have a rapidly growing business with Olive Tree People, a European, luxury, waterless skincare brand. It truly embodies my love for holistic living with products that support the body inside and out! I have a growing blog and website where I educate readers on the benefits of reducing their toxic load and now have two published digital guides that are incredible resources for families looking to make clean swaps in their home and for those overwhelmed by a new Hashimoto diagnosis. I do all of this while staying home with with my 3 children who are 3 and under (with number 4 due in July)!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Today, I spend my time working with clients 1-1 to reduce their toxin load in their homes, I write blogs and guides to equip viewers and readers at home to empower them to advocate for the health of their families, I provide product solutions by partnering with various wellness brands (primarily Olive Tree People).

I’m incredibly proud of the work I’ve done to heal my body and support the health of my spouse and children. The reading and research took years and a tenacity to be an advocate for myself. I had a strong belief that I was meant to have a better quality of life. So many of us accept a normal that is uncomfortable, leaving us suffering with a number of ailments that we think are “just the way we are.” I believed that healing was possible and I stopped at nothing to find the answers and change my lifestyle because I wanted to be a mom more than anything in the world.

The resources can only take a person so far and a big part of my job is transferring that belief into others. It can be discouraging to feel sick and tired all the time so my experience and resources are a wealth of information and a testament that healing is possible!

How do you define success?
From a young age I knew I wanted to be a stay at home mom, homeschool and be present to my children. I also had so many passions of my own that I was not going to completely drop. Embracing my entrepreneurial spirit was the best choice for me because there aren’t many options out there for moms who want to be home with their kids. I also deeply enjoy the work that I do and I love that my kids see me pursuing my passions. So often moms can feel lost in motherhood, overwhelmed, burned out, etc. Success for me is the finding that joyous harmony that keeps a smile on my face from the moment I wake up, to the moment I go to bed (and in between toddler meltdowns.) I have so many goals with my business but my primary goal is the success of keeping my priorities straight while helping to provide for my family in a way that’s deeply meaningful.
