Check Out Kathleen Hammon’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathleen Hammon

Hi Kathleen, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story begins with a pivotal moment back in 2016—a wake-up call from the Universe when I was in the throes of burnout and anxiety. I was overwhelmed, constantly chasing perfection, and honestly, I’d lost sight of who I was and what I truly needed. Through therapy and a lot of self-reflection, I discovered that organization wasn’t just about straightening things up—it was a form of self-care that brought clarity and peace into my life.
That realization inspired me to launch Higher Shelf Organization, where I help others reclaim their spaces and sense of self. Over the years, I’ve gone from helping friends and family transform their homes to running a business that empowers clients to see organization as a pathway to mental and emotional well-being. It’s been an incredible journey that’s deeply personal and purpose-driven.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been far from smooth, but those challenges have shaped me and my business in powerful ways. One of the biggest struggles was learning to set boundaries—not just in my personal life but in my work as well. Early on, I found myself trying to be everything for everyone, which led to a lot of overwhelm and self-doubt. I had to learn to prioritize my well-being and trust that I couldn’t help others effectively unless I was taking care of myself first.
Another challenge has been navigating the emotional side of organization. For many of my clients, it’s not just about “stuff.” It’s about letting go of guilt, fear, or attachment. Helping them work through those emotions is incredibly rewarding but requires a lot of empathy, patience, and energy. Along the way, I’ve learned that progress, not perfection, is the goal—for both my clients and myself.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Higher Shelf Organization, I specialize in creating personalized, sustainable systems. My approach is deeply rooted in self-care—I believe our environments reflect our inner worlds, and when we create order in our spaces, we invite clarity and calm into our lives.
I’m known for blending empathy with practicality, offering solutions that honor my clients’ unique needs and lifestyles. One of the things I’m most proud of is the emotional impact my work has. I recently helped a client transform their office space, and they shared how it brought them not only organization but also a renewed sense of inspiration and peace.
What sets me apart is the holistic perspective I bring to organization. I’m not just decluttering a space—I’m helping clients reconnect with themselves, prioritize their well-being, and find joy in their surroundings. My goal isn’t just a functional room; it’s a lighter heart and a clearer mind.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something that might surprise people is how deeply my work is rooted in my personal journey. Growing up as the child of a chronically ill parent, I became a caregiver at a very young age. My father, who was on dialysis for over 17 years, was my best friend and biggest supporter. His health struggles shaped much of my identity and taught me the importance of resilience and compassion. When he passed away when I was 30, it was both devastating and transformative. For the first time, I had to ask myself: Who am I beyond taking care of others?
That loss set me on a journey of self-care, self-discovery, and self-acceptance. I realized that I had internalized the belief that my worth was tied to productivity and how much I could do for others. Breaking down that belief wasn’t easy, but it was necessary. Organization became a lifeline for me—a way to create calm and control during chaotic times—and ultimately a form of self-care that allowed me to reconnect with myself.
Because of this journey, I have a deep passion for supporting caregivers, both emotionally and physically. I understand how easy it is to lose yourself when you’re constantly prioritizing others. My mission is to remind people—especially caregivers—that you can’t pour from an empty cup. Taking care of yourself isn’t just beneficial; it’s essential. When you prioritize your own needs, you’re protecting your peace and showing up as your best self.
This perspective drives everything I do. My work isn’t just about creating organized spaces; it’s about helping people reclaim their time, energy, and emotional well-being. I want my clients to feel lighter, more supported, and empowered to focus on what truly matters—whether that’s showing up for loved ones or simply showing up for themselves.
