Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Corrigan.
Kimberly, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began as a voice-over artist and video editor at Screen Gems in Wilmington, North Carolina, and moved up in the ranks to serve as a broadcast television reporter, anchor and TV host in various markets. I worked in several creative agencies across the nation as a producer, writer, contributor and also served a stint as Division Director of The Creative Group at Robert Half International. I have to say I really loved my college years at UNC-CH interning for the Tar Heel Sports Network and Carolina Basketball and give great credit to Jones Angel the late Woody Durham to my passion for broadcasting. My favorite feed was when I reported live from the 2005 US Open in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Have you ever noticed that the best things worth having require the most effort? That about sums it up. I will say that chance favors the prepared and success really is a culmination of innumerable small steps toward a larger goal. Discipline, focus & effort when you just ‘don’t want to’. However, those late nights in the edit bay producing a piece really pay off when you realize the relationships you can build and the people you can help. Writing and communication are my passions, and the struggles really served as lessons or blessings – teaching me how to adapt and grow. Now through the lens of experience, I have really been able to relax and flow with the work that suits me best while consulting others along the way.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in marketing and communication with an emphasis on video production. If a picture is worth 1,000 words, imagine the power of video. We all know What we do, most of us know How we do it, but the ‘Why’ is what really drives us. Through the art of figuring out the ‘Why’ and fleshing out stories for individuals, businesses and organizations, we can effectively connect and communicate an idea or feeling. I’m most proud of my consistent freelance writing & VO work and just recently, my invitation to host the new Tech Talk TV series produced by Lawrence Harte.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Discipline, Drive and Optimism. The willpower to produce the inner fire and energy to succeed is something that is in all of us but needs to be exercised and nourished. A strong support system and access to education are very important, along with a personal dream or desire. Having a supportive family that instilled strong values in me provided a great foundation, and learning how to apply those values in tough real-world business settings was a great training ground. You can’t help what happens, but you can help how you react. Success is the journey itself, and it’s very important how you treat people along the way. Relationships and networking are the keys, and people will always remember how you made them feel.
