Check Out Kowan Turner’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kowan Turner.

Hi Kowan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I got started on drums at a young age, growing up around music and being drawn to rhythm from the very beginning. What started as a passion quickly became an obsession, and I spent countless hours practicing, learning from other musicians, and playing anywhere I could.

Over the years, I developed my style by performing in churches, local bands, festivals, and live venues throughout Colorado and beyond. Those experiences taught me not only how to be a drummer, but how to support artists, connect with audiences, and bring energy to every performance.

Today, I perform with Kowan & Da Homies & Steady Flow Funk , record multi-track drum sessions for artists, and continue to work as a live and studio drummer. My journey has been built on consistency, hard work, and a genuine love for music. Every opportunity—from small local gigs to larger festival stages—has helped shape me into the musician I am today, and I’m excited to keep growing, collaborating, and creating music with great people.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like many independent musicians, I’ve faced challenges balancing the business side of music with the creative side. There have been times when opportunities were limited, gigs fell through, or I had to work extra hard to get my name out there and earn the trust of other musicians and venues.

Another challenge has been staying consistent through setbacks and continuing to grow as a drummer. Music is a competitive field, and success doesn’t happen overnight. It takes years of practice, networking, and dedication to build a reputation and create opportunities.

Despite those obstacles, every challenge has helped me become a better musician and professional. I’ve learned the importance of perseverance, preparation, and maintaining a positive attitude. Looking back, those struggles were valuable because they helped shape who I am today and made me appreciate every opportunity to perform, record, and share music with others.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a professional drummer, recording artist, and performer who specializes in live music, studio recording, and supporting artists across a variety of genres including funk, soul, R&B, rock, blues, and gospel. I’m best known for my versatility, strong groove, musicality, and ability to adapt to different musical settings while bringing energy and professionalism to every performance.

Currently, I lead and perform with Kowan & Da Homies, a band dedicated to creating memorable live music experiences through high-energy performances and authentic musicianship. In addition to performing, I offer multi-track drum recording services for artists who need professional drum tracks for their projects.

What I’m most proud of is building a career doing what I love while earning the respect of fellow musicians, venues, and audiences. I’ve had the opportunity to perform at festivals, concert series, breweries, clubs, and theaters throughout Colorado and across the country, continually growing as both a musician and bandleader.

What sets me apart is my commitment to serving the music first. Technical ability is important, but I focus on creating the right feel, supporting the song, and helping everyone around me sound their best. I bring reliability, professionalism, and passion to every project, whether I’m playing for a crowd of thousands, recording in the studio, or collaborating with local artists. My goal is always to leave a lasting impression through great music, positive energy, and genuine connection.

What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are centered around continuing to grow as a musician, performer, and bandleader. I want to expand the reach of Kowan & Da Homies, perform on larger stages, and bring our music to new audiences throughout the country. I’m also focused on creating more original music, building stronger collaborations with other artists, and continuing to develop opportunities in both live performance and studio recording.

One area I’m especially excited about is growing my work as a session drummer by providing professional multi-track drum recordings for artists and producers. I enjoy helping bring other musicians’ creative visions to life and hope to work on a wider variety of projects in the years ahead.

Looking forward, I see continued growth rather than a single big change. My goal is to keep building momentum, refining my craft, and creating opportunities that allow me to share great music with more people. I’m excited about upcoming performances, new recording projects, and the possibility of taking Kowan & Da Homies to the next level while staying true to the passion and dedication that got me here in the first place.
