Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Gillespie.
Hi Lauren, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I decided to enroll in cosmetology school at the age of 18 right after high school. After graduating I was incredibly lucky in finding my mentors. I began assisting and opened my own private suite from there.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I feel as though most things worth doing are hard at times. Having struggles with the health of family members while tending to others behind the chair is hard. But at the end of the day doing hair helped me through it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a hairstylist, I specialize in balayage/ lived in color. I am most proud of being able to make people feel confident in their own skin every day. I think curating a personal experience for my guests on both a stylistic and personal level sets my apart from others.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I can immediately think of two people have completely transformed my career and they are Melea Krabach and Heather Highfill. I was hired by Melea straight out of cosmetology school as an assistant and she showed me everything I know. It’s a debt I will never be able to repay seriously she’s amazing. Heather works within the shared suite and she showed me how to conquer new techniques. She taught me to always believe in myself and stand up for myself- and what a business woman. I am eternally grateful for them.
