Today, we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Wright.
Hi Lauren, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am originally from the East Coast, but now that I have lived in Colorado for the last 15 years, this is where I call home! I consider myself a Fine Art Portrait Photographer, always aiming to capture my clients on a more personal and intimate level. Bringing intention and a sense of confidence into my work, my imagery holds an emotionally evocative and honest feel to it.
I began my career as a wedding photographer after obtaining my BFA from the Rochester Institute of Photography in 2003, but over the years, I strayed from the wedding industry in order to pursue portraiture in a way that not only gifted my clients with meaningful imagery but also gifted me with clients that I am graced to see year after year to continually create for them!
I am also a mom to a wonderful 10-year-old, and she is everything I have ever wanted in a little human. She is sensitive, kind, fiery as hell and just may drive me bananas before I know it. She has the ability to bring me right to the edge of a cliff and then gently pull me back to safety. Her will is stronger than mine was at this age, but that assures me that she will be okay as an adult.
Aside from portraiture and parenting, I have a wonderful partner who supports me. The final piece to me is my passion for horses. It’s taken most of my adult life to realize how special and vital horses are to my life. They so easily bring me an indescribable calmness within the chaos of my life.
They allow me to love without fear and trust unconditionally. They have taught me to be vulnerable in ways I cannot be with even the closest human relationships.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As I approach my ten years in business, I’ve definitely looked back on what went extremely well and what didn’t go as planned, and the biggest hurdle for the business was my ability to service clients during COVID.
Most of my clientele at that time was seeking maternity and newborn portrait services, and not being able to work in person as usual, which was very close proximity, and sometimes in the hospitals where my clients had their babies posed a lot of difficulties.
I was lucky not to miss any of the scheduled sessions, but we certainly had to get creative on how we worked together. There was at least a month when I was offering virtual portrait sessions through my iPhone! I’ve been very fortunate to grow and sustain this business for over a decade, and every hurdle – whether small or large – has taught me something!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My portrait business focuses on motherhood, and all that encompasses that, whether you are expecting, bringing home a newborn, celebrating a milestone, or honoring personal individuality and growth.
I have a pretty evocative style, not your typical everyday portraits. My work is a combination of honest emotions found through the events we experience as mothers, and then I illuminate their stories with light, texture, and mood, making not only an emotionally connected image but a visually captivating one as well.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
There have been so many things I have learned throughout the years, but the most important thing I have learned is that real life lives below the surface.
The most joy you will ever experience is found very close to home, and the relationships and connections you make in life – whether they are personal or business-related – you’ll want to work hard to continually foster them.
