Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Crane.
Hi Leah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my singing journey around age 8 when I sang in a competition through my dance studio at the time. I began performing in local musicals after that and show choir. This led me to pursuing a Bachelors in Vocal Performance from the prestigious Indiana Univeristy Jacobs School of Music. Following my academic career, I sang with orchestras throughout the Midwest and Internationally and worked as a studio session singer for National music publishers. About 5 years ago, I stepped out of my comfort zone and started singing with a local Latin Jazz and Salsa Band. I recently finished and released by first solo album in 2022 “Lucky to Be Me,” which has been a lifelong dream. I’ve had the privilege of singing for many funerals of prominent individuals, as well as the National Anthem at sporting events like the NCAA Final Four and at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Each opportunity has seemed to lead to new relationships and other chances for me to share my gifts.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely, the pandemic has brought about its share of challenges, as it has for many artists. I completely lost all studio work during that time and live performing for a period. However, this time led to me learning how to record from home and taking advantage of video and social media to expand my skills.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m most proud of being able to sing in so many different styles and settings. What sets me apart is my versatility. I have various opportunities to sing in a month that range from singing in a Jewish Temple in Hebrew, with the Salsa Band in Spanish, choral music for a publisher or High School, a patriotic song at a sporting event, or an inspirational song at a funeral. I never feel bored with my career, and I’m always up for a challenge!
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I think that we are already starting to see many people and businesses growing from their social media platforms. I would imagine that it will continue to evolve, but we will all need to move with these trends to stay relevant. Recording from home studios has steadily been rising in the past few years, and I know this will continue to move in that direction.
