Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Cleveland.
Hi Lindsay, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been drawn to hair, makeup, and fashion for as long as I can remember. By the time I was twelve, I knew I wanted a career in the beauty industry- it felt like less of a choice and more of a calling.
My early life was marked by a lot of change. I attended five elementary schools and three different high schools across two different states. That instability came with challenges, but it also taught me adaptability, resilience, and how to connect with people from all walks of life. At the time, I wasn’t sure pursuing my passion was realistic- but I never let go of it.
I’d been working at call center in my hometown of Idaho Falls for over three years when I’d had enough. I was in my early twenties when I took a leap of faith and applied to Paul Mitchell in Salt Lake City. I burst into tears when I was accepted! With the support of grants and student loans, my dreams were coming into view.
It wasn’t a straight path. Life intervened, and I had to step away from school more than once. What was meant to be a 1-2 year program, ultimately took about 6 years to complete.
Despite the setbacks, I fought for the end goal and stayed committed. It taught me the value of perseverance, discipline, and the importance of showing up- even when the process is difficult. Graduating wasn’t just academic achievement for me; it was proof that I could follow through on something meaningful, no matter how long it took.
After completing school in Salt Lake City, I moved to beautiful Colorado to begin my career. New state, new career, new opportunities, new life!
I knew only a handful of people, so I had to build everything from the ground up. The support I received from that handful of people helped me plant my roots.
I started by working at a beauty supply store while also serving at a restaurant- both became invaluable spaces for learning, networking, and making valuable connections.
Eventually I earned a position at an incredible salon where I stayed for about five years. That experience was foundational. My coworkers inspired and taught me new things every single day. I built lasting relationships and gained the tools that propelled my career into its next season.
Owning my own business had always been a dream, so I took a leap into a studio suite and worked independently for three years. While I grew as a solo stylist, I realized how deeply I value community. That led me to my current home at Midtown Roots Salon in downtown Longmont. I’m focused on continuing to grow my business while helping clients feel confident, seen, and like the best versions of themselves.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has definitely not been smooth, but growth doesn’t happen without discomfort and risk.
The pandemic challenged me both personally and professionally. I lost one of my dearest loved ones, and I wasn’t sure if I’d come out on the other side.
Experiencing loss and navigating the pandemic pushed me through major rebuilding seasons, both in life and in business. Those challenges deepened my empathy and made me a more intentional stylist and business owner.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I strive to help people feel authentic and beautiful. It’s not about just “doing hair”. It’s about translating people back to themselves and helping them shine. Listening and holding space for them through life- work, grief, love, breakups, motherhood, burnout… everything. I help restore confidence and spark.
My chair is a place where I want people to feel safe, soften, and leave feeling more like themselves.
I specialize in seamless extensions, blonding, and lived in color- creating hair that feels natural and grows out beautifully. My work is intentional, wearable, and rooted in longevity.
I’m known for listening and achieving my clients desired results- seamless extensions, bright blondes, natural low maintenance color.
Just as importantly I’m known for my eclectic fashion sense. It’s one of my largest forms of self expression. It signals creativity and individuality. It reassures clients that I understand and celebrate authenticity- beyond the hair itself. I respect people who want to look like themselves, not everyone else.
I take pride in building my career with perseverance and integrity – through restarts, setbacks, and real life.
Many stylists are talented. Few are attuned. I am invested in more than just my clients hair. It’s an emotional connection and bond that creates the magic in the chair. I’m not just a hairstylist- I’m a curator of expression.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I wouldn’t be where I am without the people who walked alongside me at different stages of my journey. My family and friends have truly been my rock- offering support, encouragement, and grounding through the highs and the lows.
I’ve also been fortunate enough to have mentors that have taught me not just technical skills, but professionalism and work ethic. I’m very grateful for the environments that challenged me and supported my growth.
My clients deserve immense credit. Many took a chance on me early in my career and stayed loyal throughout the seasons. Their trust pushed me to continually elevate my work and show up every day.
