Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Davila.
Hi Lisa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I graduated from nursing school in 2002 after trying out many other careers such as cooking, physical therapy, and working in the insurance industry. My first job at the Denver VA was very fulfilling. I enjoyed working with Veterans and it was a very rewarding job. I worked med-surg for many years and then went into nursing management and education. I enjoyed my management role and went back to Regis where I completed a Master’s degree in Nursing Leadership.
I stayed in the nursing and healthcare field for 20 years before moving into Patient Experience and working at organizations such as Iora Primary Care and Platte Valley Medical Center. But over many years, healthcare seemed like more of a business seeking good ratings and funding. When COVID hit, I left the healthcare industry to start my own business. I had been a Reiki practitioner for 18 years and was in the process of becoming certified as a Qi Gong instructor. I also recently completed a certification course to become a Life-Cycle Celebrant.
I started writing ceremonies for Celebrations of Life, funerals, and healing ceremonies. I also worked as a nurse consultant, writing tests for continuing education along with nursing education modules. The shift felt more aligned with who I was as a person, and it also reflected my belief system around caring for people. After I completed my certification in Qi Gong, I started teaching at Rocky Mountain Pilates and Yoga in Lafayette, Colorado.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yes and no. The phrase, “if you leap, the net will appear” comes to mind often when I reflect on my journey. When I left my corporate nursing job, I was taking a big leap without any net in sight. I left a very financially secure job with benefits to pursue my passions. Looking back, at the time, there was no question in my mind that it was something I needed to do. I had changed as an individual and I no longer fit into the career and role I had found myself. I struggled with the guilt of leaving the nursing profession at a time when nurses were so desperately needed.
However, I reflected on my own experience as a patient in 2018 when I was going through breast cancer. It was at that time that I decided that I would take care of myself first. I worked on healthy boundaries and tapping into what my natural gifts were. I chose to follow a different path and held the trust that I would be successful and happy. While I was transitioning, my nurse consultant work exploded. I had a lot of work come my way that I had not planned on, and I was so grateful. A safety net did appear and served as a bridge while I created my new work situation.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in Qi Gong, Reiki, and energetic health coaching. With my 20 years of experience in the healthcare field, I have a solid understanding of the physical manifestations of illness and disease. Paired with my training and certifications in Reiki and Qi Gong, I work with my clients to clear their energetic imbalances that can over time lead to physical symptoms and diseases.
I am proud of the evolution of my practice to merge eastern and western modalities to care for the whole person instead of targeting symptom relief of a specific condition and not addressing the root cause of the illness. I also specialize in chakra balancing and this can occur on its own or within a Reiki or Qi gong session. I also use music and frequencies to move energy and unlock emotion. I teach on Wednesdays and Sundays at Rocky Mountain Pilates and Yoga in Lafayette, Colorado and conduct a private practice out of my home.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
If I were to recommend one book that puts it all into perspective is The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer. This book showed me how my thoughts and emotions can create my reality. I learned to pay attention to my limiting self-talk and consciously work towards reversing the frequency of my energy to the positive. It also showed me that it is my responsibility to protect my energy from people and situations that lower my frequency and drain my energy.
