Check Out Mackenzie Palladino’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mackenzie Palladino

Hi Mackenzie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been an artist for as long as I can remember, creating has always been a deep passion of mine. My metalsmithing journey began at East Carolina University, where I concentrated in Art and Psychology. It was there that a design teacher introduced me to metalsmithing, an art form I had never considered. That moment ignited a lifelong practice that I’ve been dedicated to for over 13 years.

In 2015, I graduated from Appalachian State University in Boone and continued to hone my craft during and after my college years. In 2018, I launched my business under the name Semplice Designs. Semplice is the Italian word for simplistic, a theme that has always been apparent in my creative process. I had no idea where to begin as a business owner, but I was very driven to create. My big break came when I began vending at large-scale music festivals, where my work truly thrived.
One of the defining moments in my career was selling a bolo tie to Tyler Childers at MerleFest in 2019. Since then, my pieces have become highly sought after by musicians, performing artists, and those who connect with my style of craft. I’ve had the privilege of creating custom jewelry for performers such as Bob Weir, Jeff Arevalo of Goose, Billy Strings, Teddy Swims, Wynonna Judd, etc.

I am so thankful for the success of my business in Boone. I was able to relocate to Nashville in 2021, a decision that has opened up incredible networking opportunities. Here, I’ve designed performance wear for artists like Lainey Wilson, Ella Langley, and Carter Faith, solidifying my presence in the music scene.

If you’re familiar with my work, you’ll recognize my pieces on the red carpet, on stages, at large events, and among the crowd at music festivals. Each piece I create is a reflection of my dedication to craftsmanship and my passion for life.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road, but I would say it’s smoother because I figured out a way to calmly navigate the challenges you face as a business owner. I’m constantly learning and trying to get better. Yoga really helps (haha.) I will say I have a long way to go in regards to where I want to be, but I’m enjoying the process of learning and taking my time to get there.

One of the biggest challenges was moving to Nashville and not knowing a single person. I went from big fish little pond living in Boone to a tiny guppy in the ocean in Nashville. I would say that finding a studio space was my biggest challenge overall. I am so thankful to say I have a beautiful home in East Nashville, where I am able to operate my studio and live comfortably. The steps it took to get here will never be lost on me, I’m so grateful for everything I have. It’s all I’ve ever wanted, truly.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Metalsmithing is a rare craft that is such a big part of who I am. Many jewelers assemble pieces and buy jewelry online to resell. As an artist, I pride myself on offering pieces that are true to my craft and speak to my overall aesthetic. I’ve been practicing for 13+ years and have truly honed my style as I’ve elevated my designs over time. This sets me apart from other creators because I’ve dedicated so much of my life to building my brand and developing my authentic style.

I am known for my bolo ties, my most popular design. Specifically, the back detail on my bolo ties are made up of meaningful messages or lyrics from songs that resonate with either me or the customer. I love freely creating, I also take custom orders for weddings, holidays, and everything in between.

My designs are so consistent that people can instantly recognize them when they’re worn in the public eye. It’s something I take pride in as a designer.

What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been a very dedicated artist, even from a young age. I was very well behaved in class, however, I would get in “trouble” for drawing and not paying attention. I remember specifically drawing detailed landscapes and animals in 2nd grade. I’ve always loved nature and felt a deep connection to the outdoors. My teachers would end up taking my drawings after I’d worked on them so tirelessly. I would still continue to draw, it’s all I wanted to focus on at the time.

I started working at the age of 14. Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to every job I have had. I’ve always been passionate about putting in the work. This style of work ethic is what I bring to my business practices, I am very committed to providing excellent customer service because my business is a representation of who I am as a person.
