Today we’d like to introduce you to Madelyn Ryan.
Hi Madelyn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started practicing yoga as a teenager and never really stopped. I fell in love with the practice and its benefits, both physical and emotional, and knew it would always be a part of my life. In college I worked for a non-profit: Give Back Yoga, and fell even deeper in love with yoga seeing how it was saving people’s lives.
At this point, I now knew I wanted to teach yoga but had some self-confidence issues speaking in front of crowds, so I was scared but also felt something inside me saying it was meant for me. After graduating from University and going through a tough break up I decided to go backpack South East Asia in search of myself and my purpose. Well, it was pretty obvious from the moment I landed in Bali- yoga was calling. In every country, every city, and every town we went to I was practicing and taking classes from such incredible teachers from all over the world. Different styles, words, and messages. I was inspired.
When in Thailand we met some friends who had never practiced yoga before so I stepped in and taught my first class. The feeling I had when on my mat, sharing what I had learned and creating a flow for others for the first time: clarity, peace, ecstasy. I knew from that moment I would be a yoga teacher and set out to find the right YTT for me. I did my first training in Chiang Rai, the North of Thailand. I was humbled by what I learned and that I have SO much more to learn. I fell in love with yoga as a practice but also as my way of life – ebb and flow, light and dark. Ha, and Tha of hatha yoga. It became my everything.
I even brought it into my workplace as a preschool teacher. I started a yoga enrichment program with my co-teacher and designed our classroom around the chakras! I taught at many different studios and locations back in Denver until leaving for about a year to backpack again. This time India. I taught so much yoga in India, every day at least once a day you would find me teaching. In the Mental Health Program, I was working for I became the resident yoga teacher for both the volunteers and the patients we were working with. Fast forward after I went back and lived and trained in Thailand with my teacher, helping him with his book and learning the ins and outs of yoga teacher training. I assisted my first 200 YTT and again felt that spark inside of my inner knowing I was doing exactly what I am meant to.
During COVID I started an online studio and was able to continue and even reach further with my teachings to friends I had made through my travels. I moved to Maui, HI and for about three years working as a yoga teacher trainer- helping in coming teachers in finding their voices and activate their throat chakras. My business partner and best friend, Jaime ran our first retreat in Costa Rica last year, Re-Awaken. It was pure Magic and feels like we did something helpful and purposeful and yet again…I felt that spark.
Now for the last 6 months I have been traveling throughout Central and South America, teaching yoga and offering sound healing with my 3 Quartz crystal bowls that I have with me (they are quite heavy, but it’s worth it to spread this healing magic!). I’ve expanded my comfort zone by going to these unknown places and sharing my offerings. It has made me realize even more that yoga is and forever will be my path.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course, this journey has had many challenges but making a living off of my passion is my dream, I can’t imagine a different way of life. The hardest challenge by far has been the monetary aspect of running my own business. Over the years it’s been tough making enough to sustain but I always just put my trust in the Universe and know that I will be provided for! (Trust is everything!)
Money is never easy and asking people to pay for these offerings had always been an uncomfortable thing for me as well but now that I believe in myself and my teaching- I know my worth. It’s becoming easier and easier! Abundance is flowing.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a yoga teacher, yoga teacher trainer, sound healer, and retreat runner. And the list just keeps growing each year! I specialize in traditional Indian Hatha vinyasa as a teacher. In my training and lessons, I focus on the Throat Chakra and mantra chanting/singing. In our retreats, I bring both of these offerings together with yoga classes and mantra lessons alongside the breathwork and ceremonies held by my incredibly talented business partner, Jaime Mondragon. And with the sound healings- I use my voice and just allow myself to be a channel or a beacon for the vibrations to flow through.
I am most proud of myself for not stopping and continuing to offer these healings all over the globe. Wherever I go, yoga, mantra, and sound healing go with me.
I suppose what sets me apart from other yoga teachers would be my experience. I have been so fortunate in being able to travel to the world and learn everything I have about this ancient practice over the last 8 years. From Thailand with my teacher, to India where HATHA was founded. To live in Hawaii working with some of the best. To teach at one of my favorite Colorado music festivals, Sonic Blooom!
And now in South America where everyone I meet is a synchronicity and a teacher in one way or another. My travels and my consistency and my dedication to yoga throughout them help me offer more to my students and reach people from all over the world in search of healing.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
As I am currently on the road, backpacking I am mostly offering online and over-the-phone appointments, I have been doing follow-up teach training for past students where we work on mantras, yogic philosophy, or creating flow. I also have an online studio where there are over 100 classes posted so you can take my classes whenever and wherever you are! I also am always offering Oracle Readings for those in need of guidance from their angels and ancestors. The best way to reach me is on Instagram @manifestingmoksha or book an appointment on my website manifestingmoksha.com.
Unless you happen to be in the same hostel as me and can take my morning flow class…my next in-person classes will be at our second Re-Awaken retreat in Winter Park, Colorado! August 16-20! I am SO excited to share with everyone what Jaime and I and our guest Chef Carolina Zubiate have been planning! Yoga, breathwork, ceremonies, dance, mantras, sound healing, delicious Peruvian fusion cuisine and so much more! Spots are limited so please sign up as soon as you can to join us! go to the Re-Awaken page at manifestingmoksha.com.
