Check Out Madison Dufour’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Dufour

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I was 6 years old God called me to do hair. And when I was 16 He confirmed it and provided all of the money that I needed to be able to attend cosmetology school in 2013.
Now, I’m a work from home boy mom with a home studio, master barber, family haircut specialist that trains parents how to do sensory friendly haircuts at home for their kids that need a little extra care or struggle to go to the salon.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
2020 was rough. I got my first self-employment studio March 20 20, literally one day before all licenses were temporarily suspended due to Covid. That was pretty stressful! But because of that, my business thrived, and I was busier than ever! This was before kids, and my husband and I were able to take the opportunity of that season and sell our home and do tiny living and travel Colorado for a year because of my work flexibility in my studio. What a gift and a year full of memories!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Though I’ve been a family haircut specialist and offering sensory haircuts for years, I didn’t know that there was a term for it. I just watched kids struggle with the sensations of haircuts, the sights, sounds, the way the tools feel, and I decided to do something about it and make the kids feel as comfortable as possible by building trust instead of forcing haircuts and causing haircut trauma.
I came to realize that no one else does that! Which is absolutely tragic.
So my goal now is to educate parents to be able to meet the needs of their kids at home instead of going to a salon and suffering through torturous meltdowns from their kids because most hairstylist don’t know how to do sensory friendly haircuts.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Perseverance and creativity. Some people may say that entrepreneurship is a formula. But I disagree! It takes creativity and hard work!
