Check Out Matt Smith’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Smith.

Hi Matt, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Matt Smith – A guy who lives for his family, family first. Father of 3 kids (Parker 8 years old, Paisley 7 years old, and Preston 3 years old), husband – Jenny Smith wife, entrepreneur, and business. Family first – Cereal entrepreneur, a guy who enjoys the thrill of entrepreneurship. Opened 11 businesses in Pueblo.

Owner of the biggest Snap Fitness in the world in Pueblo, founder of Snooze Mattress Co. — the first national franchise started in Pueblo, author of Cereal Dadpreneur and my children’s book It’s Going to Be a Great Day and co-founder of the only 10x marketing agency in the world Wake Up 10x with Grant Cardone.

Snooze: After being in the mattress industry for 20 years, I decided to open a mattress store of my own – Snooze Mattress Company in 2019. I’ve owned dozens of businesses throughout my life, but as a mattress guy, Snooze is something I wanted to grow big.

Snooze is WAKING UP a tired industry. We not only carry big names like Tempur-Pedic, Sealy, and Nectar… we are the only mattress store that gives you a sleep strategy with our one-of-kind Pressure Mapping technology. Pressure Mapping, trusted by health professionals, pinpoints the pressure spots on your body and matches you with a mattress. Our Snooze Coaches wear pajamas and sell SLEEP rather than rectangles.

In 2021, we sold our first franchise location! Snooze is the first national franchise born in Pueblo! It’s something I’m very proud of! We now have seven locations open and are slated to open two more this year in the Denver metro area. Snooze has brought inventors, founders, executives, and other big players in the mattress industry to Pueblo. People love our energy!

Discovery Channel’s Undercover Billionaire: In 2020, a man named “Louis Curtis” appeared in my life at my gym Snap Fitness. He had a huge camera crew with him because he said he was doing a documentary about Pueblo. Louis begged for a job and was relentless. He said wanted to start a life in Pueblo and a company. Together, we started a marketing company called Wake Up. Unknowingly, I was working with the 10x Founder and real estate mogul Grant Cardone! He told me this after we opened Wake Up and the crews were actually from the Discovery Channel for the show Undercover Billionaire season 2! The premise of the show was about three billionaires who were challenged to create a business worth $1 million in 90 days. Grant and I created Wake Up and it was evaluated at $5.5 million! I like to say we created it in 42 days because Grant got sick with Covid.

I honestly had no idea I was working with Grant! I was shocked to find out! I knew there was something special about him!

Since the show aired, 10xers, billionaires, and fans of the show have flocked to Pueblo to see what I and Grant created and meet the crew. We have grown our staff and now offer nationwide services! Once a year we host an Undercover Billionaire Bootcamp where we teach small business owners the strategy and Grant used to create Wake Up and make it profitable in such a short time!

Fatherhood: Family is mine why. Being a husband and father is my first priority and the reason why I do what I do too. I instill these values in Snooze, Snap, and Wake Up. In fact, I wrote a book called Cereal Dadpreneur teaching other fathers how to manage entrepreneurship and fatherhood.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The reality is every single day is a struggle, you put yourself in the unknown and build a new muscle. I’m a believer in “do shit that scares you” and go the direction that is uncomfortable, that’s the direction of growth. I’m uncomfortable all of the time in my businesses, I’m truly learning every single day.

There will never be a day where we say “I figured it out.” I think from my first business to buying my first house to my first child, I’m not ready for it. You figure it out as you go. The answer is yes, the question is how. The struggle is the unknown. The pivot daily and the ability to win. The challenge now is a national franchise and the game of franchising is totally different when you help other entrepreneurs as opposed to you being the owner. New struggles, new challenges. It’s just part of the growth.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
