Today we’d like to introduce you to Methiah Miller.
Hi Methiah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
The Buzz started in Longmont in 2019 when Methiah’s fiance, Sasha, met Jason Flinn (lead guitar) at the bar she was working at, Georgia Boys. We had humble beginnings, playing our first show at the Longmont Cheba Hut. After a few lineup changes and many gigs later, we landed management with one of our very best friends, Michelle “Flower” Olson, as she soon landed a position with “Loose Leaf Talent Agency”. “Flower” elevated the bands to heights we never thought possible, playing at venues such as Mishawaka Amphitheater, The Fox Theatre, Sheridan Opera House, Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom, and Animas City Theatre as well as festival lineups to the likes of Tico Times 4 Corners Festival, Utahs Festival of the Arts and Beanstalk Music Festival. The Buzz has continued to be unique in a very saturated scene by being true to themselves and paying tribute to their roots. Although a “jam band”, The Buzz continues to defy all laws of the scene by providing high quality rock n’ roll vocals and very eclectic influences. “Flower” left the band to pursue different avenues in 2023 after the bands historic Beanstalk debut. The incredible drummer, Tom Nelson, also left the band after Flower’s departure, playing a few shows in 2024. After the loss of major members, the band continued to truck on, finally finding a new drummer, Tyson Glanzer, previously of Dead-Phish Orchestra and The Kings of Prussia. The band continues to revive the buzz of the band in 2025.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been smooth at all. The band has been through four line-up changes, two management changes, a full west coast tour and even toured with the frontman, Methiah Miller, having a broken ankle and full leg cast. The challenges as always lie behind the scenes. The emotional and physical growth endured along with the constant stresses of being underpaid and overworked, have laid heavily amongst the band. This is an industry of desire, never expecting and always hoping.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are a jam band. The connotations that come with that include heavy improvisation, different set-lists from show to show which requires having a huge catalogue, and having the most eclectic but flowing list of songs in the industry. What sets us apart beyond our unique influences and catalogue are our unique and powerful vocals from frontman, Methiah Miller. We are, so far, most proud of playing Mishawaka Amphitheater and The Fox as well as our album “Metaphor”, produced and recorded by Scott Hachey of Magic Beans. We are different because we focus on pleasing ourselves instead of pleasing the audience.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Turn off your TV. Stay in school. Anyone can play music, only pursue it as a career if you have an undying thirst for creating new things and are willing to sacrifice money for the love of music and camaraderie.
