Check Out Michelle Averitt’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Averitt

Hi Michelle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After working in retail, helping so many women style outfits, I realized there was an opportunity on social media to help women my age put outfits together. At the time I began my Instagram platform, @poisedpetite there weren’t many content creators my age (over 50) out there. I began posting outfits that I was wearing and style tips with the intention to help women look and feel their best at every age. What started as a fun creative outlet turned into a full time job as my platform grew and I began working with brands. I was 52 when I started. It’s been 6 years on Instagram and 2 years on YouTube, and both platforms continue to grow. I love what I get to do! Helping & encouraging women is so fun! I’ve made so many friends through this journey and again, love what I get to do.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been definite struggles along the way. In the beginning I had “imposter syndrome” feeling like who was I to be giving style tips on social media? I had to push through the insecurity and just be who I am, share what I like and keep going. Once I had a larger following, a small percentage of peopleI would start leaving negative comments. I used to let it get to me, but I’ve had to learn how to let that roll off my back & focus on the positive.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a content creator, I create content on social media platforms for brands such as Talbots, Lands End, Chicos, Soma, Walmart and many others. I will partner with brands, sharing their products styled different ways, sharing when they have sales, etc.

I specialize in petite fashion (as I am 5’0″), however everything I share is also available in regular sizes and sometimes tall or plus.

I am known for a classic, modern style sharing what is on trend, but not “trendy.”

I am most proud when I hear followers message me saying they tried something I suggested and love it. Or how they stepped out of their fashion comfort zone and love the way they feel.

What sets me apart from others is my age, 58, my size, 5’0″ and staying authentic to my self. I only recommend items I like and would wear.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
When I was about 8 years old I took tennis lessons one summer. At the end of the 4 week program there was an awards night. I was NOT good at tennis, and won an award for best dressed, and I couldn’t be happier!
