Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Hanlin
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I founded Reilly Watters Interiors in 2016 through a life long love of design. My career started at Hellmuth, Obata and Kassebaum (HOK), an international architecture firm. After several years in commercial design, I turned my focus to residential projects and I’ve had the pleasure of working with clients throughout Colorado and beyond.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
After working for a local residential design/build firm for several years, I found myself wondering what my next move would be after the firm decided to pivot and go into the custom cabinetry business. I have always loved residential interior design and knew that I wanted to continue…Starting my own firm seemed like the necessary next step to take.
I always strive to ensure the client’s style is incorporated into the overall design concept. What I love, may not be what the client loves. It’s a delicate balance to strike. I want to ensure that what is being selected is correct for the space but is also beautiful and functional in the eyes of the people living in the space.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Ive always loved interior design, and I feel very fortunate to have turned my passion into a career. My style is rooted in clean lines, but I love to incorporate vintage details like a Turkish rug or an antique light fixture. I aspire to deliver spaces that are authentically unique…Adding unexpected details makes the space feel more curated.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Over the last several years I have seen clients gravitate towards smaller spaces with higher end finishes. Most of my clients want homes with spaces that are used on a daily basis. Long gone are the formal living rooms and spaces that are only used on occasion.
We are seeing more trim details such as wallpaper and wainscoting on ceilings and walls for a more custom look.
