Check Out Nabile Torres’ Story

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Nabile Torres.

Nabile Torres

Hi Nabile, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started my official apprenticeship in 2012 and have been tattooing full-time since 2014.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road. Tattooing is not an easy skill to master. And having to learn the technical workings is only a small part of the journey. It’s hard to understand all of that at the start and end.

However, some of the main struggles for me were in the technical aspects. Of course, having to deal with my personal life along the way affected my learning progress. I think any job that is centered around artistry and creating can bond your emotions with your work, and that can be tough to navigate.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I mainly specialize in black and grey realism. I think that is what I’m sought out for.

But I have been putting more time into expanding my illustrative skills and I usually end up with an illustrative/realism Chicano hybrid type of drawing. I am also very proud of my Mexican American culture and try to incorporate it into my artwork as often as I can.

I honestly don’t know what sets me apart from others. I’m sure I haven’t reinvented the wheel here. But my point of view is unique and mine only, so I know that when I create something, it comes from an unconscious place that is true.

What do you think about happiness?
Honestly, drawing and creating makes me happy. I realize that’s a pretty predictable answer. But the feeling of bringing to life a blank sheet is unmatched. The process of creating an image takes me to a place that I can’t find otherwise. It’s hard to articulate, but it’s beautiful.
