Check Out Nathan Smith’s Story

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Smith.

Nathan Smith

Hi Nathan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I created the world’s first *patent pending* low-stress training cage for cannabis, and I couldn’t be happier choosing this path to walk.

What started as a shower thought has become a tangible product and it’s been a wild ride over the last two years. I never thought I would see myself here, but now I couldn’t imagine myself anywhere else.

Along with my business partner Dante, we’ve been able to traverse the entrepreneurial landscape and make the sweetest lemonade out of it. I’ve learned that entrepreneurship is not for the faint-hearted, and no one will ever work as hard as you; I’ve sprouted many grey hairs as a result. I am excited to look back fondly at the memories I have of starting the business out of my closet, and all the sleepless nights that came with it, and I am so excited to share my story with everyone!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not. We have hit just about every roadblock you can imagine with the name “canna” in the name of it, and it feels like there are never enough hours in the day. Some of the struggles are self-induced when I have to wear 15 different hats in a day, but I love steering the ship through rough waters. Our problems are dynamic in nature and shift as the goalpost does.

Initially, my friend worked in Home Depot, and we made the first prototypes in the back of their tool rental section. Our biggest obstacle at that time was ducking management and taking pictures of the process for Instagram. Design and prototyping was easily the biggest struggle for us. But after sifting through a few design companies, I learned Fusion 360 myself, and my family bought me a 3d printer that changed everything.

Right now our biggest obstacle is exposure, and making sure the right people see it. A wise old deadhead told me one day, “Everything will be alright in the end, and if it’s not alright, then it’s not the end.” And I live by that.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I do a lot. Currently I am an HVAC technician with a background in analytical chemistry and an honors degree in psychology. I’ve been in cannabis for over 10 years, doing anything from trimming to chromatogram analysis compliance consulting, and everything in between.

There is also a master’s program at the University of Wisconsin that offers a “Psychoactive Pharmaceutical Investigations” degree; and a master’s in psychedelics, and I am actively in the process of enrolling in it. With Denver decriminalizing psilocybin, I think a lot of really great things are going to happen with plant medicine, and I want to be at the forefront of it. I now have 3 high-end 3D printers that I keep running pretty much 24/7 while offering a range of design and 3D printing services.

In my spare time, I wear the 15 hats for Cannacages, and cultivate my own flower to showcase the product working. My workload is especially heavy right now with 420 coming up. In my spare spare time, I am a writer for the Marijuana News Network, and In my spare spare spare time, I do Uber to help fund all of this.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
My father passed away at a young age, and he has always been an inspiration to be the best version of myself. I’d like to think I make him proud.

Pricing:

  • Base Cage – $45
