Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Manteris.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Challenges with physical and mental health lead me to the fitness industry in the early 90’s. Transitioned to physical therapy as a physical therapist assistant in 2007. Transitioned to Chiropractic in 2014. These transitions were the result of a constant drive to help people live better lives (less pain, better function, energy to make it through the day, ability to have engage in fulfilling activities and relationships). As a chiropractor, I have pulled the skills gained through these past roles into the current practice. I have been the treating doctor in many different settings (at least 10 different clinics I believe). The current setting that I practice in is a product of what patients need and want, how I like to practice (being able to deliver what they need and want), and a recent life change. And I really like it. I deliver patient focused treatment in a private, boutique setting (Flow Concierge Healthcare) where most of my chiropractic patients (“wellness patients”) are on a subscription model where chiropractic care, corrective exercise prescription (physical therapy), Dry Needling (advanced practitioner), shockwave therapy and soft tissue/manual therapy (myofascial release, IASTM) are all included as needed in each treatment session. This also includes referring and coordinating care with other healthcare providers, ordering imaging/labs and being available by text or phone 24/7. I also specialize in personal injury (auto accidents). This is a very different model dictated by the demands of medico legal practice. Separate from chiropractic, I offer health coaching (nutrition and exercise) specifically for safe medical weight loss that addresses/corrects the four major mistakes that most providers continue to make with this intervention. And, I think that is about it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely a challenge. You can be a great practitioner but if you don’t know how to do business, you are screwed. So I had to learn how to run a business. A few times. There is still a utilization (under) issue with chiropractic. there is still a lack of integration with the medical community (I would love to see this change and am actively trying to change it). But taking care of people, doing right by patients is why we overcome these obstacles.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m good at guiding patient’s care. I think this is where most providers fall down and is why the healthcare industry as a whole has such a low confidence and approval rating. Typically, if a patient goes to a provider for a problem and that provider can’t fix it, that is where the story ends. (more on this in the interview if you like)
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Unfortunately, no. No big shifts or changes. I can tell you the shift I would love to see it go in.
