Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Craft.
Hi Nicole, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I decorated my first royal icing sugar cookie just before Christmas of 2019. I didn’t think I did too bad but knew I wanted to do better! I love a challenge. I took in all the feedback from people I gave samples to. I started watching YouTube videos and looking at inspirational pictures trying to figure out on my own how they accomplished the looks. I was practicing like crazy. Valentine’s Day 2020 a few friends ordered some sets for their husbands. St. Patrick’s Day I had even more friends ask for my cookies. March 2020, I decided to make my side hobby a legit business. I took many courses on cottage food requirements, laws, taxes, and food safety. I registered with the state, made a name and logo, and hustled. I felt like God was telling me to quit my job and do cookies full time. I am married with 3 kids, 1 of them being a busy toddler. It was the perfect fit for our family. I am constantly learning new things and making my business better.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would have to say right out of the gate my recipes for the dough and icing was very smooth. The struggles I have is being a one-woman show and doing everything yourself from start to finish. When you are doing many dozen cookie sets per week, I still have to manage emails, social media, inquiries/quotes, grocery shop, bookkeeping, the cookies themselves, sometimes making samples for holidays, doing craft fairs, packaging, pick up, or deliveries then the cleanup! I still have some smoothing out to do and I look forward to creating new ways to help with this in 2022!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I own Craft’s Cookies and I specialize in custom sugar cookies! I am known for a delicious soft bite sugar cookie for any occasion. I always offer decorate your own and paint your own cookie kits that parents love for class parties, sleepovers, fun activities to do together during the holidays. I am most proud of the art that I create for each set. I have never thought of myself as artistic and sometimes I blow my own mind! I think what sets me apart is that I own an edible printer, I can take most images, portraits, and logos and print right onto the cookie! I can even print on other edible products: cakecicles, fondant, graham crackers, crackers, and more. I have taken on thousands of cookies for corporate companies, churches, and more. The machine amazes business owners to market their business the sweet way!
