Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Stanfill.

Nicole Stanfill

Hi Nicole, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Nicole Tondre

My dad brought us to Colorado when we were kids. He was drawn to the mountains.

I studied Fashion Design at the Colorado Institute of Art in Denver.
As soon as I graduated I headed to NYC and worked as a designer

Urban wear was big at the time so I got my start as a streetwear designer. After a few years, I made a shift and opened a vintage denim store with a friend of mine in NYCs East Village called Circa Now.
I would come back to Denver, load up on vintage denim and leather and take it back to NYC to sell it.
We had a cult following, the village kids shopped and hung out.
Chloe Sevigny, ELizabeth Moss, Natasha Leone, Juliette Lewis, Drea De Matteo.
We also sold denim washes to the denim brands to use for their collections including Ralph Lauren, Madewell, Jcrew & Calvin Klein

From there I partnered with a factory in India and started a denim line called Courshop
We had two brick & mortar locations in NYCs chinatown and in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

We wholesaled to indie stores like Totokaello, Need Supply, Bona drag, Free People and Urban outfitters. We did a few Courtshop x BDG collab jeans with Urban Outfitters.

From there I got poached by Calvin Klein Jeans. They are recruiting designers from downtown denim brands to go in and reimage/relaunch their CK Jeans line.

I did a 2 year contract at Calvin then decided I was ready to leave the denim manufacturing world and try a new path.

in 2020, the pandemic prompted a move back to Denver for us to be with family. We’ve loved reconnecting with the culture and the beauty of Colorado

I moved into fashion advertising, working as a producer for Hens Tooth Productions which is owned by a friend of mine.
We produce large scale print and video campaigns and editorials for Levis, Neiman Marcus, Prada, Saint Laurent, Target, Vogue, GQ etc

Recent Work

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?

Avoiding burnout.
Sustainable practices
Achieving work life/balance
Juggling being raising kids with being a working mom

The biggest takeaway has been just to roll with it and be open to change and new opportunities.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Next up-
I am bringing back the Circa Now now and launching it as Denver first Rent-A-Rack shop.
This is a concept that is very popular in Finland and Australia and is making its way to the US.
I’m really excited to bring it to Denver and will open the first location within the next 6 months.
It’s a great way to sell clothes on your own terms, shop sustainably and help slow the fast fashion cycle.
We will be looking for Denver’s best sellers.
