Today we’d like to introduce you to Part Time Ghost.
Brought together by our founding member Brady Snow, the musicians in Part Time Ghost, believe it or not, met through the internet. It’s often a crapshoot finding like-minded musicians through Craigslist and Facebook but we found each other.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our first show was at the Lion’s Lair on February 13, 2020. As you can imagine, live music suddenly became a very dangerous thing to do, which isn’t a conducive environment for a new psychedelic garage rock band to find an audience.
Although we couldn’t play music for other people, for our own mental health, we continued to play for each other.
To make lemons into lemonade, our drummer Nic Conde more or less taught himself music production. That summer he recorded our debut album Songs of Death and Love in Brady’s basement and mixed it the following fall. Brady, a professional videographer, shot and edited a few music videos. We spent hours writing material and honing our sound. Though we had only played one show together, by the end of the year, we were a band with some content and some history.
And we were friends! Do you know how hard it is to find four bandmates that all actually like each other?
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
“Part Time Ghost is a psychedelic garage rock band from Denver, Colorado. We’ve danced towards the apocalypse since 2019.” That’s the canned bit.
We play good times music for bad times.
In a nutshell: we write about difficult times with humor, a strong backbeat, and some wicked guitar solos. It’s impossible to ignore the downbeat tenor of our era, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t rock. So we try to rock.
What were you like growing up?
From our inception, Part Time Ghost has been interested in history, the solos of David Gilmour, outer space, The Velvet Underground, backup vocals, fat bass lines, and broken drum sticks.
What’s next?
More shows. More stages. More places to play at. More opportunities to meet our fellow musicians. More opportunities to put our funny bummer music in people’s ears. More opportunities to meet all the weird, wonderful people of Colorado. Our next show is at Your Mom’s House, June 19th @ 2pm.
We’re also working on our follow-up album Apocalypse Now-ish, which should come out some time this year.
